I was told that the an undergrade's school ranking is a major issue when pod school select students. Is this true? Any current pod students on here who did not go to an NYU, Case Western Reserve, Penn State or UC Berkeley type of school and it was not held against you?

Pod admissions are nothing like MD/DO admissions. No one cares where you went to undergraduate school. As long as your GPA/MCAT is above avg you are fine.

When I was at TUSPM, I was told that my grades carry more weight because of the university I graduated from. Admissions even pulled out a book that shows rankings of schools. 😕

Anyways, it's probably not that huge of a deal.

There are a lot of students who came from non-ivy league schools at SCPM. Actually I don't think I can name one in my class. I feel an above avg GPA and MCAT negates all doubt.

I didn't say anything about ivy league. I'm just talking about the difference between different state schools - they're all ranked from extremely competitive to not very competitive.

I think the difference between universities is negligible, though the difference between a community college and a university probably carries significant weight.

Long story short, if you attended a physical university, the one you attended probably doesn't matter a whole lot. If you went to a community college or online university, your GPA should be higher to be considered comparable.
