Just curious to see what other people's schedules are like this semester?

Currently (fall 08):
- Geography, Organic Chemistry I + Discussion, Physics II, Physics II Lab, Biological Bases of Behavior = 14 credit hours
- Work on campus as a TA/tutor 10hrs a week
- Work at a cat shelter and clinic ~20hrs a week
- Volunteer at disability office -hrs ranges

I'm just burnt out right now...

Organic Chemistry II, Organic Laboratory, Microbiology, Genetics, Statistics. ~15 hrs

Volunteering at a shelter ~ 5-10 hours/week.

Research on naked mole rats. ~approx. 25 hours earlier but now down about 5-6 since the past few weeks.

With exams, applications and trying to maintain a household, I feel like I am completely burnt out!

Can't wait for winter break to recoup.

I know this says undergrads but I'm a pre-vet too (MS student) and I don't care so there! 😀

Classes: Graduate Animal Behavior, participatory Animal Biology seminar, non-participatory Animal Science seminar.

Teaching: Intro bio (BIS2A) 4 discussion sections including making up and grading quizzes and such.

Research: Working on my animal care and use protocol for my study and swabbing hundreds of cats for DNA, so far!

Microbiology, Microbiology lab, Physics, Physics mechanical lab, International Politics - 16 credits

Volunteer hours - 5

Caregiver for my disabled mother - 40

part-time job - 8-12

Finishing up a master's degree as well. Taking all grad courses in biomedical sciences: Mam Physiology, Animal Metabolism, Nutrition, Pathology, Reproductive Physiology...17 credits plus 30hrs/week in the lab. Plus Im trying to finish the Tufts application! I just keep reminding myself that soon it will be January and I can finally exhale.

That's crazy CBRGrl!

Are you doing a 1 year program or something that it has to be that intensive? I can't imagine trying to work more than 2 real classes in with all the responsibilities that I have in the lab and to the students I teach.

It's my last semester, and I'm taking it relatively easy. 😀

14 credit hours: Animal Physiology w/ lab, Physics 2 w/ lab, and two creative writing classes (getting the English minor).

Working 20 hours a week at an emergency veterinary clinic. Not really volunteering anywhere this semester except for occasional help with fundraisers for the local humane society.

I'm still sometimes overwhelmed though!

Not really working at all this semester (though I occasionally will feed the horses a few mornings a week for the barn manager).

Classes:
Physiology of Reproduction + Repro Lab
Animal Husbandry and Techniques + Lab
Modern History of Western Societies
Equine Nutrition
Introduction to Psychology
Animal Science Seminar
Yearling Horse Management + Yearling Lab

I sort of crammed everything in so I can finish this semester. I'm headed to the local shelter to see about starting to volunteer now that apps are over!

Classes:
Animal Growth and Development
Applied Animal Ecology
Plant and Animal Genetics
Physics II (Magnetics, Electric, etc.)

Outside of class:
Fostering dogs for local humane society
Volunteering as an adoption counselor for the same humane society
Working at the dairy farm
Being a member of two clubs, and the Treasurer of another club

School related:
-Animal Physiology + Lab
-Human Anatomy and Physiology + Lab
-Epidemiology
-Public Speaking
-Technical Writing
-American History

-spending ~10 hours a weeks commuting to and from school

Other:

-work ~20 hours a week @ a small animal hospital
-help take care of my 3 younger siblings
-as of lately....still finishing up my leftover supplementals and am a bridesmaid for my friend's wedding (that is tonight!!)

-try and have a social life (all my non pre-vet friends think I fell off the face of the earth)

Wow that's a lot of commuting! I didn't even realize how much I spend just driving...well for it's just about 5 hrs a week. ..wow, good point lol🙂

I'm a second bachelors student so I am taking undergrad classes.

12 Credits: Biochemistry(3c), Cell and Molecular Bio(3c), English Writing(3c) and Micriobio Lab(3c)

I also commute 1 hr each way to school, so 10 hours a week there.

Work 20-24 hours a week at a wellness/specialty clinic(weekdays and Saturday morning).

Working 16 hours at a 24 hour emergency/specialty hospital(Saturday and Sunday afternoon).

Then I spend 4 hours one morning a week at the SPCA animal shelter helping out with surgery stuff.

I don't even bother trying to have a social life at this point.

Classes:
Comparative Animal Physiology + Lab
Genetics
Cellular Biology Lab
Neuropsychopharmacology
Honors Biology Thesis
Art Appreciation
= 17 hours

Other:
work 10 hours a week
tutor 3 hours a week
research 10 hours a week

49 days until graduation!

Well, right now I'm taking vertebrate morphology and speech, plus working 30 hours/week at a small animal clinic. My hardest semester was probably Organic Lab, Physics II, Japanese II, and a vet internship requiring 8 hours/week. Plus, I got married and moved into a house that semester. Haha.

Next semester I'm only taking botany! Hah!

my classes:
Calculus
Intro to Probability and Statistics
Psycholinguistics
Behavioral Neuroscience

4 courses is a normal load at my school, you have to petition to take 5 courses. So I have about 12.5 hours of class per week, but have 2+ hours of work for every hour of class.
I'm a psychology major (I decided I wanted to go to vet school after I decided to be a psych major) so I'll still have to take organic chemistry and biochemistry after I graduate, and I'll take physics this summer.

also have:
part time job - 7 hrs/week
music commitments - 7 hrs/week

Due to a financial aid screw up where I was eligible for more money as a part time student than I was as a full time student, I'm only taking 11 hours this semester (and next semester as well). My current schedule is:

Organic II - 3 hrs
Cell Biology + lab - 4 hrs
Genetics + lab - 4 hrs

Since I am only taking 11 hours this semester, I decided to start volunteering in my cell biology prof's research lab where I'm helping a student with his research. I mainly genotype mice and help with the mouse room maintenance. Occasionally I get to dissect a mouse, extract ovaries, and isolate them under a dissecting microscope. In the future I might have the opportunity to do in vitro fertilization. This semester I'm only getting maybe 4 hours a week in the lab, but next semester my schedule should allow me to get much, much more.

I wanted to get a part time job (either in a vet hospital, or anywhere really), but with the economy going the way it is that has been rather difficult.

Oh, also, since everyone is listing their commute, I drive/ride 50 miles round trip for about 5.5 hours a week.

I'm looking forward to next semester. I'm gonna be taking Organic Lab (with the greatest chem professor in the world), vertebrate embryology (which, though it fills up fast, I'm probably guaranteed a spot in because one of the co-teachers is the prof whose lab I work in -- gotta love those perks!), and physics II (okay, not looking forward to that one at all).

First semester freshman:
General Chem 1 + lab, General Bio 2 + lab, Intermediate French 2, Great Conversations ("honors" humanities class that covers a lot of GE credits), and International Dance 1.

We are only allowed to take 4.5 credits, and that is 4.25, although I'm also taking flute lessons from a senior here and they're usually .25 credits... so I'm maxed out courseloadwise.

I'm not volunteering anywhere, although I'm going to head over to the local vet clinic soon to try to get a position shadowing for surgeries next semester (she's a grad from my college so she loves to have college students there).

I'm in Flute Choir (1 hr/week), Tae Kwon Doe Club (4-5 hr/week), Valhalla Band (2 hr/week), Hall Council (1-2 hr/week), and Equestrian club (3 hr/week). I also practice my flute for an hour each day for lessons, so I stay busy, although I'm not doing anything really vet related yet.

Fall semester of my senior year. 🙂

Personal Finance
Pathology
Principles of Animal Disease
Reproductive Physiology w/lab
Molecular Toxicology
Cattle Reproduction Management ~18 credits

TA for animal science department ~2 credits

Thesis research (colon cancer and PPAR expression) ~25 hrs/wk (2 credits)

Too many clubs and activities to take care of as well. ~6-8 hrs/wk

I don't know about you guys, but I'm exhausted and ready for Thanksgiving!

Enviromental Biology + Lab (5 1/2 hours per week)
Organic Chemistry 1 + Lab (5 1/2 hours per week)
Physics + Lab (5 1/2 hours per week)
Humanities (2.5 hours per week)
Philosophy (2.5 hours per week)
= 15 credit hours

Member of the Biology Society (1+ hours per week)
I bowl in a youth bowling league (2 hours per week)
I work part time (12+ hours a week + 1 hour commute)
I'm going to be volunteering/jobshadowing one a week or once every couple weeks (depends how many clients she has scheduled that day... 4 hours per week + 2 hours commute)

I just got done midterms... I haven't gotten close to a full night's sleep in two weeks 😛

Hey Nyanko,

Yeah, it's a one-year program, so they really cram everything they can into two semesters. Luckily I dont have to TA any classes this semester so Im off the hook as far as teaching goes. It's a lot, but Im sure it will be worth it in the long run. A lot of people are having to take summer classes to finish in time, but I am determined to have this summer OFF 🙂 we'll see!

Organic Chemistry II, Microbiology lecture and lab, Applied Animal Ecology, Horse Management, Working with Farm Animals, and an animal science internship course (a residual from a zoo internship I had this past summer)... 19 credit hours

I work at a dairy farm, have been helping graduate students with conservation research, and am volunteering at a wildlife clinic...~15-30 hours a week

I am also doing a small honors project for my microbiology class, and am an officer and committeeperson for 2 clubs... ~5 hours a week.

Taking it a little too easy this semester, 13 units

Animal Physiology
Biochemistry
Genetics
Ecology

Not volunteering or working at the time, but I have a job interview at a vet clinic tomorrow! 👍

2.5 credits (full course load) --
Intro to Animal Nutrition
Agricultural Animal Physiology
Epidemiology
Principles of Disease (online)
Music and Popular Culture (elective for my degree - awesome class)

aretoo, is the online principles of disease class available for non-residents through long-distance learning?

General Bio I, Chem I, Calculus, and Fairy Tales(great class for core classes🙂 15 credits

Work 30 hours a week
Do everything for 4 horses everyday AM and PM
Help with my friends horses a couple times of week
and I think that is about it........🙂

Have to finish my OSU supplemental essays, but this is more fun...

Not too heavy on the science courses right now...i dont have too many left woohoo 😀
