Ok here is my issue. I was offered a research position for the Spring of 07 - Spring of 08 in the microbiology field. I know its "good" to have for Dental application and what not, but my problem is that, its about 3 credits a semester, NOT in GPA and a maximum of 3 credits of research can be used towards my bio major curriculum, (leaving 6 more credits left out) that wont go towards biology major. My question is this, would you guys take this research offer?? Or should I decline it. I would have to do 1.5 years of it. Thanks for advice guys 😀

I'd take it, but that's only because I liked micro when I was an undergrad and never did take the time to get some research experience... I think it will definitely help on your Dental school application. I didn't really understand your issue with credits/GPA/major stuff- but regardless of all that, I'd still take it. If you don't like micro, I'd say don't waste your time or your professor's time- get into some research you're interested in.

Thanks for the response and yea, I dont think I clearified that well.

My biology (B.S) curriculum is 130 credits

I will ultimately take a total of 6 - 9 research credits that will not count towards gpa.

Of those total research credits, I can only apply 3 of those total credits towards my BS degree in BIOLOGY. Leaving some credits left of the research.

So you honestly think it will help me stick out ? (assuming good credentials)

Why do you need to take more research credits than are required for your major? I wasn't accepted to any dental schools last cycle, and I feel that if I would've had some research experience, it would have made me a more competitive applicant.

But it doesn't make you or break you by any means... this is just my take

The professor wants me to stay a minimum of 1.5 years in the research field, basically, you cant just research for one semester. As you were saying, it wont make or break you, so i really dont know what to do

I got in with no research experience. It's doable.
