My daughter is currently going to the University of North Texas. Her goal is to get into UT Southwestern but she is worried about the low # of students UTSW accepted from UNT last year. She is thinking about changing schools to either UT Austin or Texas A&M. Does anyone have any suggestions for me on this? Her GPA at UNT is 3.9 right now (she is technically going into her 2nd year at UNT but is just a few hours short of being considered a junior). If she maintained this GPA at the other schools do you think her chance of admission to UTSW would increase if she got her undergraduate degree from Texas A&M or UT Austin?

Any suggestions anyone has would be appreciated.

As long as her MCAT score is 33+, it doesn't matter where she went to undergrad; she'll have a decent chance to get in anywhere.

Hey Sannd1!

Welcome to SDN!

First off---undergraduate university has very little to do with your chances of getting in. If it was Rice--then there's room for discussion.

Seeing as how your daughter is doing well at UNT--I would recommend she stay there. As another poster said---as long as she nails her MCAT (and of course has the accompanying ECs) she'll be fine.

Best of luck to your daughter!

Plus UTSW loves students with research experience, and a publication would be a huge plus.
