I was wondering if anyone could explain to me how the atlas links work. Do you have to buy a UCV atlas for this or is it linked to the path pictures in First Aid? I was thinking they might be referenced to first aid since both books are by the same authors.

The atlas links are for using the UCV series alongside the 2002 edition of First Aid. They cross-reference each other.
