Hey guys I will more than likely be returning to NC after dental school where my family lives. I have a quick question. A while back when I was a freshmen at a pre-dental meeting I remember someone mentioning that there is a program set up that will pay for your dental school if you work in an underserved area of the state and match the time you spend in school. I guess it is similar to the military scholarships that are available but you are able to stay in NC. I have looked for it and have only come across the National Health Service Corps, which may be what I am thinking about. Anyone have any knowledge of such a program or about the National Health Service Corps in general?
Thanks in advance.

Well the only program I have heard of like that is like you already mentioned, National Health services. I believe they pay your tuition but unlike the military scholarship they don't give you a stipend until you actually start working in the impoverished area. This means you are still responsible for the funding of your room and board.

i have a question.. if u take the national health service scholarships,, and u work in an under served area, do u get paid differently.. i mean does the national health service pay u or its just like a private business, or are u on salary( if yes, then how much?)

I encourage you to do your own research because I just flat don't know. Most of what I have heard is just through the grapevine and probably unreliable.

Look up the county or town websites. Sometimes they'll post health professionals needed in their respective area. Good luck.
