Hello everyone,

Congratulations on your acceptance into UNE College of Pharmacy:biglove:
This thread is for the discussion of housing, financial aid, curriculum, jobs, Portland life (after-school life), and of course your thoughts on UNE's upcoming pre-candidacy meeting w/ the ACPE in June. I hope to see you all in September!!!!!!

I'm pretty certain that the Dean has advised and laid out a solid curricula that ACPE will authorize pre-candidate status for the coming Fall. This is exciting and I hope to see you there this Fall. I don't think we'll have time to work but having an after-school life definitely with the vast coastline and activities to do as a class.

I agree, the curricula seems pretty solid and the steps that they have outlined for their path to pre-candidacy should give them ACPE authorization. As for working, I have to during the weekends (Sat and Sun only). Hopefully I will get a perdiem job at a local hospital. It won't be easy w/ the curriculum but I have to do it lol. Congrats on your acceptance Peter; see you in the Fall.

I've been shopping around for housing online but waiting until July before I actually put a deposit on one. There are a couple of nice and fairly affordable places that I see online that are literally a stone throw away from campus. I'm not looking forward to living too far from campus as I was told the weather can be unpredictable there... I’ve lived in the south my whole life so getting used to the cold weather and snow will be my biggest challenge I think…

Did any out-of-state acceptees get the scholarship?

I did. I wonder how selective they were with those. Does anyone have any recommendations for housing?

I'm from south florida...same boat as you when it comes to the cold weather. When did you interview ?

where from south florida are you from BeautifulDay??

I'm from Texas so it'll be a change for the weather when moving up there. I notice that a few have been selected for scholarships -- I didn't get it. Do you know what sort of criteria they were picking out for the scholarship?

I interviewed on April 10th...I wish I would have looked at that Bayside Apartments place. Has anyone seen it in person??

I did not but if you go to the following website:
http://www.baysidevillagemaine.com/
you will see some pictures and get info as to the rent. Its not $180/person! It is more like $580-$675/person. I spoke w/ the leasing office and they said that the building is only 3+ months old and the reason rent is so reasonable is b/c they are working w/ UNE. In fact, the lady at the leasing office said that they might dedicate an entire section (about 120 rooms) solely for incoming pharmacy students at UNE. The only downside I see to this place is parking. You have to lease a spot for $90/mon and there are only 100 parking spaces. From what I was told, some people who are going to UNECOP in the fall have already made security deposits ($200) and parking space reservations ($90). There is actually a waiting list for a leased parking space lol......

Wow, thanks for the info. If they do end up reserving some rooms that would make things so much easier because that was def. one of my concerns (that they'd be full already). I actually live in a place similar to Bayside Village now, so I knew the rent was going to be at least $600 ($180 was a little too good to be true...lol), I think I read somewhere on their website though that utilities are included which is good. The parking thing def. concerns me though. I plan on bringing my car and by the looks of things i'm going to have no where to park it.

Everyone going to UNE in the fall needs to be CPR/AED/Advanced First Aid certified. I spoke w/ Janel Redman last week and she confirmed that the following class meets UNE Health professions requirements:
American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid With CPR & AED. It is 5-8 hour course that offers everything. Although the title is not "Advanced First Aid", it is the same thing b/c it is designed for health professions. Once again, I have already confirmed this Ms. Redman. Make sure you sign up for the class that combines all three b/c they are also taught separately!!! The following is a link that explains this course:

To find a class in near you, go to the following link and enter your zip code:
