UNECOM interview

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The first interviews were today and I thought they were great. The people were nice, the campus is gorgeous, and the faculty is amazing. It's a very conversational interview. They know your stats, but they don't know you, which is their objective.

hey orthodoc, good luck on thursday! lemme know all the super secret inside tips 😉 😀

Thanks a bunch NjDO0 & congrats on all of those acceptances!
Plus more interviews to come?! Nice going, man. Do you have a clear-cut 1st choice?
So many choices!!! 👍

Very sorry to all who came to interview today. We just got back from a 4 day weekend (ok,some of us STILL had headaches 🙂 -- not me), and are facing a big cranial quiz tomorrow. So we're all cramming. I tried to get in half an hour early, but y'all were already sheepherded off by admissions to hear a spiel by then. 🙁 i noticed, tho, that you got to step into OMM lab while we were playing footsie. 😉

SO. Any questions? How did you do? what do you think?

For those of you interviewing Thursday, we'll be in anatomy lab most of the morning, so if you don't see us, don't think for one minute we had the morning off.

Hmm. I'm on Thursday & just heard the weather is going to be very bad. They say "the coast of Maine is going to be a gale center"....sounds like driving up from Boston that morning may not be such a breeze after all 🙁

Looks like bad weather is trying to hamper my travel plans to ALL of my interviews....rgh!
(At least this week I know my suit is staying in my car with me....)

I will be trying to get them to show us the anatomy lab, just to check up on you all, ShyRem - ha ha!! 😉

gale center? really? I just heard it'll be a little rainy. really. It's not raining yet....

Dang. Gale. I just looked at the weather forecast - it just says rainy with 20-30 mph winds. That's not bad. Bring an umbrella; they're saying 1/2" of rain.

got invite for 11/14--im very excited!

Yah they changed it now to just some rain! 😳
That's a relief.
I'm on my way......vrm, vrm.....

Thanks for the good luck wishes!!

Wow. What a great interview day....
Nice school. Great students!! I'd be happy to go there, for sure! 🙂

Whoever asked who I was during our tour - sorry - it took me about 2 hrs until I figured out that is what you were asking!! 😳

Good luck everybody & congrats on the invite, redsoxfan!

Congrats on the interview, Orthodoc! I am just dyin' to hear from them about an interview...and am going to the East Coast next month for two other 'views and so am getting antsy. I hope I get a chance to check them out...and have them check me out!

That's awesome that you liked UNECOM! How does it compare to DMU in your opinion? Or UMDNJ if you have interviewed there already.

hearing all that makes me more excited to interview there in a couple weeks! I just got back from CCOM and LOVED it....why are the choices getting harder!?😕

Hey Nj - glad to hear things went well at CCOM.
Dr K - it's tough to compare. I liked both schools for different reasons. Overall and in general, I felt more 'comfortable' at UNE - being there, with the students, etc. Most people will say that the interview is very easy going but for whatever reason I felt like it was a little tougher than my other interviews, so I'm not sure if it went all that well for me, personally! I just thought the current students there were really terrific. Very friendly, but very real, very down to earth. I'd be very happy to go there.
Once again - good luck, guys!
And good luck Sarikate - maybe you will hear soon!

Glad you liked us, ortho. As for your interview - last year my UNE interview was the most candid and the most "testing" in some ways. My interviewer was direct, honest, and to the point. I answered in kind, at one point firing back an answer just as quick as the question that was fired at me; at the end he told me one of my LORs said I was a person "of unusual candor". I got the distinct impression he was testing that to see if I was genuine or being fake. They seem to value honesty, integrity, and being true to yourself. And I think that shows in our classmates.

Hope you hear good news soon. It was good to meet y'all today! 🙂

Wow - that sounds kind of similar to how it went with me. It was a situation where I really had to answer honestly, even though I would have liked to give an answer that "sounds" better, if you know what I mean. So I can only say they got a completely honest view of me and what I think and what I would do in certain circumstances.
I haven't heard how any of the other interviewers felt about theirs since I was nearer to the end, and they'd all left by then.

I gotta say the current students are by far what made the strongest & most positive impression on me. The staff & faculty did too - but we just didn't have as much interaction with them as with students. Thanks for stopping by, ShyRem. It really helps to get lots of views & input.

I'll be crossing my fingers now! :luck:

Glad you enjoyed the show!
Yeah, I figured either you were not willing to expose your secret identity or...nervousness caused you to not completely understand my silly question. No worries though, hope you were happy with what UNE has to offer and wish you the best with getting in! 😀

Hi everyone and congratulations to you who are invited and finished the interview!

My interview is Nov. 11th, Saturday. Is anyone coming on the same date?

Good luck to everyone!

I will be there....name is dave. If you read back in the thread a couple of us are interviewing that day
dont take my spot😉
dave

dgriss... NEDERLAND?? From CO myself. Western slope. I miss mountains. 🙁

But I must admit the ocean is pretty cool. Be prepared - they have WAAAAAAAAY too many molecules in their air out here. 😉

yeah-nederland. Funky cool place. The air IS thin and dry! Damn, I sleep and work at 8800+ ft and after 1.5 yrs I still get bloody noses and dehydration ha's overnight. I try and keep the humidifier rolling in the house. I do feel great when going back home to NH-feel like I can run a marathon.

see ya

Hi all,
I just got an interview invite today for 11/16. I might need to change it, but I am reallly excited!

Marcia

good luck, mariah. i was there last thursday and loved it. thought the whole atmosphere was amazing. after the day, it's my first choice. - hope everyone whos got/will get an interview has an equally good time!

They told us that they'd be interviewing about 40 people in Oct, and about 70 or 80 in Nov. So it isn't surprising more invites are appearing - which is great! Good luck, everyone! :luck:

I just e-mailed them again and hope I am not coming across as pushy. Obviously they are being as accommodating as possible during this insanely busy time of year; I'm just reallllly hurtin' financially with all these trips back and forth across the country. Yee gads!

word up kuba- sounds like the 11th will be hoppin'-maybe the sdn'ers should go out for a drink after 🙂

also, for those that have already interviewed...why are you not posting interview feedback? There is none for UNE since last march-dont be lame👎
dave

Er - current students will probably give you a better idea than I can, but from what I saw, the nearest drinks will be the ones you bring with you! LOL! 😀

Actually they do have that lounge/bar place over by the gym.

hahaha... well, UNECOM -1 point:laugh:

 I think they had drinks there...(We just kinda whipped by. I saw a pool table, and restauranty stuff - tables, booths, and I think bar stools... maybe. It was SOOOOOO long ago now...)

Word up, Dave.
To those who have interviewed, show some love! I know I'll be posting when I get back next week.

I'll be there too and am looking forward to meeting you all! 🙂

Very sad day today...I found out that UNE has put my application on hold and that my chances are slim due to receiving a 5 in my PS section on the MCAT (she said they don't accept scores less than 6 in any individual section). Not an outright rejection, but definitely not want I wanted to hear...🙁

Very sorry to hear that 🙁 Don't let that 5 stop you though. You have a lot of places to interview at! Kick butt!

Interesting - I just reviewed the SDN interview feedback & see that I was not the only one this fall that felt like my interview had some really 'testing' questions. So it wasn't just me & ShyRem! That's a relief!

Anyway - I still LOVED the school and the interview was not THAT uncomfortable. Just more than I had expected! Good luck, everyone! :luck:

My awareness of osteopathy as apractive and honesty was definitely tested. I loved the school, and my better half and I decided that if I get in we're withdrawing my application to everywhere else!

I know the goals of osteopathy- whole body before disease, preventative care, manipulation and muscularskeletal system, holostic treatment, better history taking, etc. what am I missing?
How did they test you?
What questions?
I am nervous....I have not shadowed a dO and only really know it through the descriptions on websites and those all say the same 3 paragraphs....

dave

I got my interview invite yesterday. The date I got was 11/28 😱

I will have to change some of my Thanksgiving travel plans 🙂

HI Dave,
Congrats on your interview. I am interviewing there in Nov as well.
I bought the book, The DO (Gevitz) last night and have made it through the first few chapters. I think it would give you a nice perspective on the history and challenges of the professsion.
Also I posted a website in the forums so you can read AT Still' autobiography for free.

I think your interview isn't for awhile (Nov 11), so you may be able to look up a local DO and ask about shadowing once or twice. If anything the fact you made an effort to get out there and shadow would be looked upon favorably. You might be able to find some off peak hours (evenings or weekends) if a job is taking up your daytime hours. I know that I volunteered in an ER and they had a DO practicing there so it can be done!

Take care,
Marcia
