So I just interviewed at DCOM yesturday and absolutely loved it. Today I get an interview invite to UNECOM on March 7th. I loved DCOM but UNECOM has always been one of my top choices. My question is, if I get accepted to DCOM, shoud I spend the couple hundred dollars to go and interview at UNECOM? Plus it's late in the cycle and since my stats aren't amazing I don't know if it'd be worth my time? I have until the 12th to accept or decline my interview. Opinions? 😕

Take the interview and GO TO IT. Unless there is a compelling reason to cancel it, don't rob yourself of a potential to make a choice. All schools have strengths and weaknesses, and perhaps a visit to another school will point those out more clearly. Talking with other people, visiting other places, always a good idea, especially when you're looking to invest over $200K in your education.

Congrats on your interviews!!!

It would be wise to take every interview regardless of if you are already accepted or not. That is what I have been doing to keep my options open. Actually I am very glad that I did b/c UNECOM is the school that I liked the best that being said consider the source. 🙂

I know this is a great opportunity and I've always liked UNECOM but I guess my main reason for being slow about this is I still haven't taken biochem and to do so is another grand that I really dont' have. I don't know, I'm conflicted... 😕

congrats on the interview...i would really like to interview at UNECOM. When were you complete? Thanks for any help and good luck with this!

I think you should go. UNECOM was one of my top choices as well. They wouldn't send me the secondary until I completed organic chemistry 1 at the end of December. I ended up withdrawing about two weeks ago because I still had not gotten my secondary. I wanted to compare UNECOM and DCOM and my husband would have prefered to stay in the Northeast, but since it was getting so late we both decided that it was a waste of time. Plus, you know how I feel about DCOM.😍 😉 I have heard lots of great things about UNECOM though, and I really think you should look at it. Plus, you haven't heard back from DCOM yet, so who knows what will happen. Why waste time scheduling the interview and get a much later date than you would have if you just went ahead and scheduled it now? Good luck!!!!:luck: :luck:

Yeah, that's a tough call, but if you don't have any acceptances yet, then I would accept all the interview invitations that were offered to me, especially if I liked the school. Don't let finances stand in the way of what you want; you'll be kicking yourself later, if you overrode your impulse to go just because of a dumb class. Besides, you are going to start accumulating major debt anyway, going to any medical school, so it wouldn't hurt if you started a little sooner. At the end, it'll just be a drop in the bucket.

I got an email saying I was complete on the 24th and I got an invite a week later on the 31st.

Another question, I've had this trip down to TN with some friends scheduled since Nov and the UNE interview is going to fall right in the middle of it. Would it be bad for me to ask to reschedule the interview? Would that look bad? Any other week is fine except for that one.

rescheduling is no big deal most ppl have lives

😀

Wow, didn't realize their last day to interview is 16th of March. Alright, well I'm interviewing March 1st. Anyone else?

I didn't know that March 16th was the last interview day either. How did you find that out? I guess that means I'm out of the running for an interview.🙁 I really wanted a chance to interview there, but I haven't heard anything since I sent the secondary in.

My interview was originally scheduled for the 7th so I asked for either the week before or the week after. I was told that the week after was the last week for interviews so I probably didn't want to put it off til then. The first day available was the 1st so I took it.

don't count yourself out! I just recieved an interview invite today for march 8th. so you never know!

now that you are in...still going to the interview?

Greetings! I just thought I would throw in my two cents. I just interviewed at UNECOM... it went very well. I hope to get an acceptance letter. Every prospective student I interviewed with commented that they were told that UNE, at this point, is accepting students on a "space available" basis only. I would like to make it clear that this information is second hand from the other prospective students. I was not told this directly from any faculty - an important disclaimer. One of the other prospectives said he was asked some tough questions regarding this "space available" situation. I was told by MSI and MSII's that UNECOM goes deep into their list and that the list is not on a first come basis. I mention this not to get you, or anyone, worried who is interviewing and hoping to attend UNECOM. I mention it merely to give you a heads up so when and if you hear it, you will be prepared. I'm really glad I was spared being told this during my interview, but it was still a little unsettling when everyone started talking about it. UNE does have rolling admissions and I guess it shouldn't be a surprise, especially given the date, but it did catch a few people off guard.
Good luck! And personally I would attend the interview and not worry about it. UNECOM is a tight community and you will be in good company. I'm waiting and hoping just like you and many others. One interesting story about an MSI was that he was accepted and called the day before class started this past summer! He packed his stuff and drove up from MA to make it, and was applauded by his fellow class mates when he arrived. His peers spoke very highly of him and he apparently high passes most classes. This just further illustrates to me that you never know what is going to happen and it is always best to keep a smile on your face and be ready to move when opportunity knocks!
Cheers,

I already bought the plane ticket. No reason not to. Plus my mom told me to keep an "open mind." I have the feeling she's got reservations about TN and I'm not really sure why.

sorry new to this and posted twice.

space available basis?
would that affect those who are already in?

meaning.. say une accepts 150students for 120 spots - (they are assuming approx 30 will choose a diff school)... but if all 150 decide to stay, they would somehow kick out some students?

I doubt that cause then every subsequent year there would be a potential "sorry no room for you this year, but thanks for the deposit HallMark Cards" sent out.

I believe if such a scenario occurs, then the school will accomeodate the extra students in some way by bringing in those High School desk/seat chair things (very technical term 😀) and other accommodations. Its either that or someone is going to have to sacrifice his/her life and commit murder.

I would highly doubt that "space available only" line. I know someone who had an interview the last week of January and was accepted days later. And yes, I know the guy who was accepted the day we started. He was immediately offered couches and places to crash by several classmates until he found a place to live.

I don't know when the adcom meets next (I just checked the calendar and there's no committee meeting listed... yet), but the calendar does list the last interview date being 3/29. Good luck to all who are applying.

Rumors have this horrible habit of being wrong. Keep your chin up, your head high, and do your best.

I was there, and spoke with all the applicants interviewing with me and have it on good authority. This is not a rumor. The above advise is sound. I really didn't post this to get people worried but the two prospective students I spoke with at length about it were surprised, and if it was me I would want to know.

blue, no offense, but you got the information from other folks who got the information... sounds like that old game of "telephone" you played as a kid. Unless you get it straight from the administration's mouth, I would be somewhat skeptical.

And, BTW, I'm a current MSI at UNECOM, and the administration has been telling us that they're still accepting. Straight from admin's mouth to my fingers to you.

However, as I type this it occurs to me there is always the possibility they were being kind to those applicants not wanting to say they were not as strong to warrant an immediate acceptance. That's merely speculation on my part. I know UNECOM is still sending acceptance letters (at least they were yesterday when I was at the office looking for free candy).

Good luck to you. :luck:

No offense taken. I'm not sure the kid analogy works but I know what your saying. If I hadn't been there I would probably respond the same way and advise the person saying it not to use crack before med school interviews. Thanks for looking into it!
It is very interesting, I'll say that, and who really knows why faculty say and ask certain questions. I have a mentor who is a faculty member who was interviewing that day. Maybe I'll bring it up when I see him next, but maybe not. Like you are alluding it doesn't matter and too much speculation isn't healthy. Thanks again!

Thanks bluejuice and ShyRem both for the heads up and nerve calmers, respectively. I think many things on SDN need to be taken with a grain of salt, but def great to hear the different possibilities. I am scheduled to interview at UNECOM March 8th although trying to resched. due to volunteer conflict and it is nice to know a little something. thanks again.

So, is it still possible that the last day of interviews at UNECOM is actually March 16th? 😱 😕 I guess I just cut it really close seeing as my interview date is...March 15th. :luck: Does anyone know for sure if it's an interview for a waitlist spot? UNECOM is truly my first choice...I really hope I will get in...even if it's on the first day of class!!

Thanks!

Anyone with any UNECOM info, I know this was brought up a couple weeks ago but I was just wondering if students are only being accepted on a space available basis at this point in the game. I'm sure there is no way of knowing for sure, just trying to calm my nerves for my 3/1 interview/the anticipation post interview as UNECOM is my first choice. Thanks for any help!

I'm tired of staring at my Board Review Book, So, a couple quick things... they haven't finalized when the last date for interviews is going to be. I'm not going to say when I think it might be because I don't exactly know. It might be the 16th, Yes, might it be later than that, yes quite possibly... also on the accepted space available thing, this if from that newsletter that was posted above.

--------------

Is the class full? How long does UNECOM interview?

In a technical sense, the class isn't considered full until lectures start the morning of August 8 (following two days of orientation). While the number of acceptances offered is slightly more than the number of seats in the class, accepted candidates - even those who have submitted their deposits and other matriculation materials - occasionally make the decision to withdraw from the entering class. This balance between acceptances offered and deposits received changes every week, meaning there may actually be more seats available in March than there is today.

Knowing this, the Admissions Committee will continue to interview candidates through early April. As we move into these last few months of interviews, strong candidates are likely to be offered what we term "Accept Space Available" letters. Such a letter, and status, means the Admissions Committee recommends acceptance, but the number of acceptances (both pending and already deposited) is currently larger than the number of seats in the classroom. As seats become available, and I indicated above they surely would, select "Accept Space Available" candidates are offered full acceptances. This can happen as early as March, and all the way up to the first day of classes.

-------------

well, what does this and things that other people have mentioned mean? It means that keep working through your applications until you hear definitely from the offices here at UNE that we're done offering acceptances/interviews/etc. Depending on the year, people have been, and will continue to be offered a seat off of the accepted space available list up until the day classes start in August if one comes open.

That being said, they do offer accepted space available letters, that basically means that you've got the grades and mcats and such and your interview went well, and the school wants you to come, and if we had a seat, you'd get in. As the newsletter said, people end up getting last minute seats at other (MD and/or DO) schools up until the last couple days before school and that you might end up with a seat if someone vacates that seat here at UNE. (and it is literally a seat - the lecture hall has just enough seats for everyone - you don't want to spend 2 years sitting in the back of the room with no desk space)

Someone can correct me if i'm wrong, but I believe that there's something about the MD schools that you can hold multiple seats until May (or something like that) and then you have to commit to a certain school - someone who is applying/has applied MD please correct me if I'm wrong - so there might be some movement in the accepted space available list at that point. It's really hard to say. But if you get an accepted space available spot given to you, do NOT give up hope. Some years there's very little movement, but sometimes there is a LOT of movement off that list, it all depends on the year.

I hope this clears a few things up... post any questions, and I'll try to keep watching this thread.

I'm tired of staring at my Board Review Book...

Same here...seems like we will be staring at review books the rest of our careers. Just took my in-service which is an annual exam for all residents in my specialty, and I'm very tired of staring at Review books. Pretty cool information, but it gets tiring when you stare at a book for hours at a time.

Good luck with the boards!
