Haha! good for you. Happy Holidays! I wonder how many of us were accepted from our interview date? Seemed like we had a solid group.

When did you interview?

Also, were you accepted yet?

Interview was very laid back. I know people say taht all the time but it really was. We laughed and just bascially had a conversation between 4 people.

My first acceptance was from UNECOM. you responded to my post about getting a taxi to UNECOM. I'm joking about the $5.

I sat in on a lecture at UNECOM when I did a pre-interview visit. I had about 3 2nd year students come up to me and say "I saw you sleeping in the lecture". It was not true but I really thought they meant it so i foolishly tried to explain that I wasn't. LOL!

Our tour guide was hot but we also had 1 very hot lady and 1 nice looking
lady in our interview group as well. 👍

Anyways I'm glad you got in because I saw your posts when the first batch of interviewees were accepted from that month.

Congrats!!!

You have a few acceptance thus far right? What is your order of preference?

I was accepted to UNECOM also. I am trying to make a decision. I really like it but I am really worried about the low board pass rates. I got alot of answers as to why this was, but none really made me feel too much better. What do you think of them? Have other schools you looked at have lower pass rates too?

Pass rates are low... but this doesn't tell you how well the people do when they pass.

If you work hard and prepare for the exams you should do well. For example. The MCAT. Did everyone in your University do well... or did you study hard and do well.

I have heard a lot of great things about UNECOM. They have acceptable --> well rotations for 3rd year. And have a good record of residency matches (AOA and ACGME).

Honestly, it really depends. Right now though they are as follows:

1. DMU
2. UNECOM
3. Kansas City (released my spot though)

congrats!! I just received my acceptance letter as well!!

What distinguishes UNECOM from KCOM and other osteopathic schools? What are they known for? I live closest to UNECOM so am interested, naturally. My parents live close to OSUCOM though so that's a draw as well. Congratulations to those who have been accepted and good luck to those still waiting!

Honestly, I really don't know much about KCOM but I can say that UNECOM has a very good anatomy program. They are also switching around their biochemistry cirriculum if I remember correctly. It was a nice school but I am concerned about two things.

1. Low Board Passing Rates (this is heresay)
2. Seems like there is no place to just chill out when you are the school. After you go to class what do you do go back to your apartment?!

I am pretty sure this is a fact now. I asked the interviewer about it on the interview and she said that they are trying to find out why the people did bad. I e-mailed a M2 and she said that they have started an after school review. I believe it started around November. The students are also trying to change the schedule around for the spring (so they have more time to study). She said this part is not definate but it looks good. I have gotten quite extensive answers, but nothing makes me feel better. The fact is that they were low. However, I am thinking that no matter where I go, if I work as hard as I can I will do the same on the boards. It is still making me feel very hesitant. Its too bad we can't see how this year's class does before we send in deposits.

Huntergatherer,
Here is an old thread about the board pass rates at UNECO: UNECOM board pass rates Granted there is a fair amount of bickering and of course OSUDOC chiming in with his standard boasting about OSU and bitching about other schools. From my understanding, there were two classes who were outliers and were nicknamed the "cheaters" and the "slackers" by other classes (jonb, correct me if I am wrong but I think I read that somewhere). UNECOM is a great school and is actively looking at their curriculum and ways to improve it. It seems like they have a very active student body and an eager administration who are both working to provide the best education possible. I am sure that both Lisa and James will be able to more accurately address this "issue" along with other current students too. Bottom line is that all medical school educations provide you the information you will need to pass the boards. Go wherever you feel most comfortable.

Hey Kids, something else to keep in mind with UNECOM's board pass rate is that the admin does not screen out the "marginal" students like other schools. In other words, everyone takes boards. Alot of schools will skim the bottom x% prior to June and require them to do additional study time thus giving a higher pass rate. That said, it all comes down to your own study habits and how much time you put in during MS1/MS2.
