Unequal batteries in parallel?

I know that the voltages add up when the are wired in series.
But what happens when batteries are wired in parallel, and the two batteries have different voltages?
For example, what will be the overall voltage when batter of 5V and 3V are wired in parallel?
Would the overall voltage simply be the one with the higher voltage, in this case, 5V?
 
I believe I asked this question a few weeks ago.

I think the main takeaway was: don't worry about it. The situation wouldn't work.
 
Not a typical scenario presented, but voltage would remain the same, current would double.
