So I got a decent composite score on my MCAT (a 31), but the breakdown was pretty uneven. PS/VR/BS I got 8/10/13. Do I need to be really worried about such a low PS score? I knew that section was going to be rough but I didn't think it would go THAT badly. Anyone out there with a similar predicament?

How is the rest of your application? Usually its low verbal, but with PS its just study time away from a higher score. If you're not a borderline applicant and if its semi close to your aamc average, dont retake.

In terms of your mcat score alone, I think you'll be fine. If in doubt, contact the schools you wish to apply to and ask if they have a cut-off point for the physical science section. Or alternatively, look at the MSAR. MSAR should give a range of scores of people accepted by each school for each section of the mcat.

As I think you've figured out, a 31 isn't bad (assuming your gpa is at least average for the schools where you will be applying). The concern is the 8. As long as it's above the cut-off, you should be fine. You might be asked about it in an interview, and I'm sure you can explain away.

I would be very surprised if schools put much stock on the PS section.... My friend got into mutiple schools with a 7 in PS with a 30 (7PS/11VR/12BS) overall score... Ironically, he is a chem major... You should be fine IMO.
