Took my DAT for the first time today and all I can say is that I'm glad it over! The worst part is just not knowing exactly what to expect.

BIO 21
GC 20
OC 20
PAT 17
RC 16 😱
QR 16

AA 19
TS 21

Do you think I ought to take it over because my numbers fell pretty bad toward the end?

BTW, for those interested, the study materials I used were Kaplan DAT blue book, EK 1001 OChem, Kaplan Organic Edge, and Topscore.

Good job on the DAT...I'm just curious, for the natural science (bio, gen chem, and orgo) sections, how long did you have to study everyday and for how many weeks/months? thanks.

If I were you, I would not retake the DAT unless the school I really wanted to get in told me to retake. You have good scores. If your GPA is good, I think you can get into a good number of schools. It's more a matter of how picky you are that will determine if you should retake.

I studied seriously for 3 months... The month before my exam I studied *hard*, for the maybe 8 hrs/day... then up'd the hours to 12-14/day the week or two before the test. I focused primarily on ochem, but made sure I knew what was going on in gchem and bio. I graduated from college 3 years ago, took ochem 6 years ago, so I had quite a bit of work cut out for me.

As for state, I am in CA and would like to attend school in-state, but my gpa sucks, so all in all, I'm not really sure where I stand. As far as I can tell, CA schools are quite competitive.

Hey I got almost the same scores except I had a 17 on RC. Im not sure what ur GPA is but with my score and GPA I got interviews from 6 of the 10 schools I applied to. I ended up getting 2 acceptances from USC and Pittsburgh. So if I were u I wouldnt retake the test unless u have a gpa under 3.4. Apply as soon as possible thats the key!!!

whats ur GPA by the way ?

Class of 2008
U. Of Pitt

Oh yea Marquette and case also accepted me. So u should apply- not everyone in dental schools have 29's and 3.8 gpa's, they need 2 fill the class up with people with 20's, 19's, 18's, 16, etc as well.

You're fine... good scores bud.. you'll get in somewhere... maybe not Cali Schools... but somewhere... I'll be surprised if any school will care about a 16 on the Reading section.... Congrats... Enjoy your summer!
