Hey guys,

So about 5 months ago I got an underage drinking charge and misuse of ID charge. I know I'm stupid and I made a dumb decision. It will be erased off of my record in about a year. I was never convicted, just charged. I basically just did community service and it will be erased as long as I do not get in trouble.

I got arrested at another city in my state (that city arrests for underage drinking instead of citations) and the school wrote an article on me saying I got arrested. I honestly do not know why but apparently they write articles on every student who gets an underage drinking arrest. Well i did a google search on myself and that article came up.

How bad do you think this will hurt me when i apply to medical school this summer? Thanks guys...

You can make a google account and delete stuff from coming up when someone googles your name. The article will still be preserved for eons in the vastness of the Internet. However, nobody will find it because it will not come up in a google search of your name.

How do you do this sorcery?

Are you primarily worried about them finding the article and finding out what happened or worried about what the piece says? No matter, you'll have to report the incident on your AMCAS application. There you will have the opportunity to explain your side of things, but they will still find out about the event because you are required to report it.

Not sure about adcoms views on these incidents-- they happen, someone else may be able to shed more light on that..

Oh I know I am required to talk about it on the app, I just feel like having an article on myself on the issue kind of hurts it more, you know?

Although it's possible, I think its unlikely that an adcom would google your name. Especially if you do what the above poster said and get those articles removed from coming up, then the incident on your record is the only thing you should have to worry about.

Which by the way, I had no idea you could get your name removed on google like that. Oh, technology lol

It could potentially hurt you if an adcom googles your name. I know there are services that will go and delete unfavorable results from all the major search engines so no one can find it. Also, you do not have to report charges on the amcas, just FYI.

If the charges were dropped and you have a record of it, contact the school newspaper. They most likely will remove it if you provide proof the charges were dropped and therefore the statement is erroneous. I had this happen to a friend and they had to harass the newspaper a little and threaten to lawyer up but got it removed entirely eventually.

Someone pleaseeee answer this!

+1 please tell us

I looked it up. You actually cant delete it off the search list. What you can do though is change the result of the search if the live site has changed from the cache....at least i think that what it said lol

So contact the newspaper to get them to remove it from the site after providing proof the charges dropped and then delete the cache? Problem solved?

Yea there is some weird stuff about cache or something. Just follow the directions, you can also send them a question and they will tell you if it can be removed.

I contacted them, they don't want to take it down.

Why would it matter that a school could potentially waste time searching for the same information that you are required to report on AMCAS?
