Unfilled Programs
Started by aimedicine
When does this data come out again?
It's already out
The usual suspects, like a program I'm familiar with [emoji3] and surprisingly a big time program in the South East in a big city with notoriously bad traffic . This program has all the fellowship programs and is well known for cardiac. Maybe they were arrogant in their match list.

I am curious to see if my former program went unfilled like last year. I heard it got cut down to half per class by the ACGME. Rumors and heresay though..

Typically it's not public, only available to match participants. Publishing it may be a breach of the Match agreement.Very interested in this also. Where can we find the list?
...I bet we could do this by reputation alone. So far:
1) SUNY Downstate
2) Emory
Where else?

Agree, usually it's published to the public at some time later if I recall, by the NRMP.

They don't.Why does Emory have a bad reputation?
He is deducing based off what another poster said about "south east program with notoriously bad traffic"

Am I still beholden to Match policies? I really don't know

Found a document in nrmp "my reports" that has program specific match data. I'm assuming that's what everyone is talking about?

I heard from the grapevine of PDs that Anesthesia intentionally cut down ~36 spots this year. Not sure if this is valid though or just a rumor. I know that at least one program lost a clinical site so they accepted less residents

264 more to go

Well the program I was referring to went from like 8 or 9 to 4. Imo they should have just closed the program down.

Yikes. Rumor is ours is looking to expand.

Like I told you a few years ago, you dodged a bullet I never expected to experience.

They would all expand, if approved. More cheap monkeys, more profits. As long as a resident is much cheaper than a CRNA...Yikes. Rumor is ours is looking to expand.
What bullet is that?Like I told you a few years ago, you dodged a bullet I never expected to experience.
What bullet is that?
Don't worry about it.
Oh yeah. Great point. 😵Don't worry about it.

The point wasn't meant for you.
Random Resident knows exactly what I'm talking about. If you haven't been able to figure it out, then sorry it's not my responsibility to help you when it doesn't involve you.
Here are the unfilled programs. These are pre-SOAP (the new scramble) numbers. This is fine to share... the match violation is releasing this data while the SOAP is ongoing, which it no longer is.
Wow
Emory only filled half
UAB didn't fill
UF didn't fill
Some Cali programs didn't fill either

I guess they'll be interviewing more applicants next year.

Or ranking more.

8/16 for Emory is crazy. Can't believe UAB didn't fill their advanced spots. Expected worse for UF tbh given their late-season, unannounced PD change. I'd be interested to see where their people came from this year.Wow

Given all the Northwestern threads, surprised they filled.
Loyola didn't.
Loyola didn't.
Emory is no surprise, to me at least. Spoke to not 1 or 2, but dozens of fellow applicants who all had the same complaints - major issues with the way their interview day was run, particularly the behaviors of certain faculty interviewers brought before us. Look I get that a small sample size isn't representative of the institution as a whole particularly with respect to clinical training, but if you want to sell your house try not to display the stained curtains and rusty door hinges front and center.
Again, have worked under some truly outstanding Emory grads, but from an applicant's perspective, that trip was a shameful waste of money that ultimately merited no spot on my rank list. Hope next year runs a little better
What type of behavior
Asked about family (carefully never volunteered this info), asked to play with a pencil (semi-literally speaking), one who individual who clearly looked like this was the largest waste of time one could manage. We're interviewers forced into roles this year?
Well I'm sure all these programs prolly filled in the SOAP.

I was wondering about that... is there data post-SOAP? How many spots went unfilled after the scramble?
Doubt that info will ever come out but who knows.I was wondering about that... is there data post-SOAP? How many spots went unfilled after the scramble?
Best bet is to call em up.
Yep, those were the 2 I saw... Just couldn't think of the names when I posted lolSurprised Cedars-Sinai didn't fill (7 out of 8 categorical and 0 out of 2 of advanced). Also Harbor-UCLA didn't fill (filled 2 out of 5).
Wow.
A lot of solid programs didn't fill but the crappy programs generally filled?
Of course Downstate didn't.

Surprised University of Washington didn't fill either (21 out of 24).
Dartmouth didn't fill (4 out of 7).
Heard some funny things about UW on the trail; a couple of residents were telling applicants to stay away.
Seconded. When you hear your future colleagues saying "come here if you want to live in Seattle..."
Harbor also had its problems. Can't speak to Dartmouth. Really though, seems people's impressions were pretty good, and programs got burned appropriately
Interesting.
With the new PD being put in during end of my CA-1 year, my former program held a policy of hand picking select residents to partake on interview day and to go to dinners for this reason.

Curious what people said about UW and Harbor (unless it's something you can't share publicly)?
I'm curious too.
Something up with Cedars and UAB?
Oh man....that open Derm spot at Howard tho.... <----intentional
Rush went unfilled, now for 3 consecutive years. No surprises there.
I think UAB was a fluke.I'm curious too.

They intentionally do this and save some slots for outside the match.Rush went unfilled, now for 3 consecutive years. No surprises there.
dayummm. Even if it is the worst derm spot ever it's still worth it hahaOh man....that open Derm spot at Howard tho.... <----intentional

With the new "all in" policy they have to offer all their spots or none of their spots in the match. I guess they only rank enough to fill some.
The scramble letters were probably crazy. Suddenly, there were a bunch of 4th yrs across the nation that LOVED them some black folks loldayummm. Even if it is the worst derm spot ever it's still worth it haha

Was there chatter about changes or problems at Dartmouth? I'd heard good things in the past.
