Uniform Reimbursement

SO,

I have yet to go to OBC thanks to a late scroll, and I will be going on my first ADT rotation site before I can go to OBC. Thus, I will need to purchase some uniforms (ACU's at least). The handbook says the uniform allowance is given at OBC. If I send in the reimbursement form with my receipts, will they reimburse the uniform prior to my OBC (I realize they only reimburse $400)? I'm trying to get this all straightened out, I'd appreciate any help.

You don't need receipts. When I got commissioned my S1 (Human Resources) had me sign some form stating that I had never received the $400 one time allowance for uniform purchases. Next paycheck...I got the money. Which, as you now know, is not nearly enough to pay for what you need. See your admin people and they should be able to square you away.

My advice, get by with as little as you can until you are assigned somewhere for good. If you are army (not sure about the other services), you will likely go through an "RFI" issue where they will give you all kinds of stuff. To include ACUs, fleece jackets, Oakley Glasses, backpacks, etc.

Not to mention, your unit may give you some stuff and local thrift stores may be able to offer you some good deals on other equipment you may need.

what do you mean by "RFI"?

Does this occur before OBC?
