Hi everyone-
This probably isn't the most conventional way to go about it, but I thought I'd give this a shot. My name is Christine, and I'm an NYU undergraduate who will be going abroad to India this summer to volunteer with Unite For Sight. For those of you who are not familiar with this program, Unite For Sight's mission is to eliminate preventable blindness and to restore the eye sight of those living in extreme poverty.
I will be volunteering in Chennai, India, from July 1st to the 20th this summer, and am fundraising- not for my own personal travel expenses- but for Unite for Sight's medical funds. Unite for Sight is sustained completely by dedicated volunteers (including surgeons, optomotrists, etc.) and is funded through donations, so every dollar goes a long way. For example, just $50 dollars pays for an entire cataract surgery. Imagine restoring the sight of a patient who, because of a simple lack of funds, would have otherwise stayed blinded for the rest of their lives.
I realize that asking for money on SDN is not the most traditional thing to do, but NONE of this money goes to me- everything, 100%, will not go to administrative costs, or advertising costs, but directly to those living in Chennai, India with preventable or reversible blindness. And all this for what we in the developed world consider mere pocket change.
Please consider supporting the mission of Unite for Sight and my upcoming volunteer trip. You can visit my fundraising site here:

I just got my acceptance letter into the program today, so I literally have no money raised so far. All money raised through this site goes directly to Unite For Sight in my name, so you can be sure that 100% of your contributions will be used well (and again, NOT for my own personal use). I would very much appreciate any help you can give me, and no doubt that the patients I will see in July will much appreciate all your donations.
Thanks! Feel free to contact me anytime at [email protected] with questions or general heckling.
Christine.
