Any suggestions on decent, inexpensive places to stay for the interview?
Is the Fitzpatrick too far to stay?

Thanks.

I don't know if you have not have connections or not, but you could try the Quad club, which is on campus. Also, you used to be able to rent a dorm room. Ask the program coordinator. There aren't a lot of hotels in Hyde Park, unfortunately.

When I was at UChicago, I spoke to another applicant who stayed at the Fitzpatrick and took a cab- cost him ~$20 I think, might be worth it if you have NW the next day... I drove in from the 'burbs in the AM, so I'm not much help otherwise!

For peds a primary suggestion was the Residence Marriott on East Walton (near Michigan Avenue) even though it's nowhere near Hyde Park! I'd say it's worth it though since it was nice to stay downtown, and the cab fare wasn't too atrocious. Unfortunately the fare's not the cheapest even with the program discount, but I'm not sure how much lower you can go in other neighborhoods anyway (and still stay in a good place).

Thanks for the suggestions.

anybody stayed in Ramada Inn near Hyde park?

my wife and I stayed at the holiday inn city center, just a couple blocks off the magnificent mile. It was great for a downtown stay, and about $20 each way by taxi from U of C. the peds program there had a great deal for the hotel.

i stayed at the fitzpatrick...I would suggest not staying there if other, more affordable hotels are available. Trust me, its nothing like the pictures.

Legend,

i stayed at the Ramada Inn .... its like 2 miles from the hospital. it wasn't that bad. i mean, its a ramada inn. we're talking two-star, low-budget. but if you're ok with that, getting to the hospital the next morning is a snap -- like a $5 cab ride tops. i didn't feel unsafe or anything.... then again, i didn't do any walking anywhere. everything by cab. it worked out great for me personally....

its funny...but of all my interview experiences...hampton inn's and suites has been the best. And they have cookies in the evening, and a hot breakfast too. You can't beat that.
