Hi
Just wondering if there any out of state students that have recieved instate residency at Maryaland after their first year. Was it hard? I know the 3 main things I was told was to obviously own or rent 12/months out of the year, driver's lisence, and something about the wages really confuses me. I was told if you make more than half the wages in another state than it can get taken away. Now I know you sohuldnt be working anywhere else if you are a resident of Maryland, but like most students from out of state, I do want to go home for the summer, and probably work so I can get those hours done. I heard that as long as you are renting a place or own a place in the state of Maryland continously than you are fine, and the wages thing is really not looked upon, but it is. I am so confused about this, because Im not getting any definite answers. I have a decision to make soon. I know it seems stupid to say that I am gonig to go home for the summer, but I heard it was not a big issue even when you do go back and work....I really dont know and its confusing the hell outta me, because nothing has really been a definite answer. Did you have to work at the school for a number of hours, is it possible with the course load? Did you get it your second year and anything else that is important? Are there any students with the same situation that were able to recieve in state residency and go back home and work, as long as they were renting? I know I have repeated the same question in 5 different ways, any information would be great.

Yea, the UM situation really sucks. I go to UM, about to graduate in a couple of weeks! Anyway, I had transfered here from UIC after my freshman year. I was lucky that my parents had already been living here for a year b/c it made it much easier for me to become a resident but it still wasn't easy. They had like a 12 step thing you had to fill out: My license had to be a Maryland license and there is all this crap you have to go through at the MVA(Maryland's DMV). Then if you have a car, it has to have MD tags for a year and the income thing was another issue....it goes on and on. When I applied to UMB pharmacy this year, I had to fill out a similar sheet of paper and send to UMB to confirm MD residency, but since I went to UM, I didn't have to prove any of the 12 things like before. I don't exactly remember the details but if you need more info on this, it is best to call the school about it or look it up on the school's website.
