Hello everyone. I'd like to know if adcom for pharmacy school sees a difference between a Univ Prof LOR vs. a CC Prof LOR? I graduated a year ago and I'm finishing up some labs at a CC for the pharmacy school pre-requisites. I'm pretty sure that I could get a Prof from my college to write a recommendation but I don't know how good it will be vs. asking a prof from the cc I am currently attending for an LOR. I basically want to know if the LORs are looked upon differently by the adcom if one is from a university professor who's a big hot shot in research vs. a cc professor who will probably get to know me better as student.

Just call your school and ask I am sure they will tell you. You should do research though I know at University of Colorado a CC prof. is on the board.

I'm sure they see because they probably ask where they teach at. However I doubt it matters because many CC professors also teach a Universities. I go to a CC and I have a number of CC professors that are only part time because the other part of the time they teach at the State University. Their syllabus are also they same as well (they will have both names of the schools on them.) So I really don't think they look down at CC professors like you think they do. They are just as qualified and teach the same material as University professors.

I think the difference between CC and university is more important when they consider your grades and the difficulty of the pre-req classes you took. As far as letters of rec are concerned, the best letters will talk more about your personality and character, which is independent of where the professor teaches. If your CC professor can write you a better letter, I would pick them to do it.

Edit: I noticed that you already graduated. I don't know what pre-reqs you still need to take, but make sure that you ask a science professor since that is a requirement for some pharmacy schools.

I agree that most of cc science professors are very qualified, but I heard from another university I attended that professional schools do view university professors' LOR more valuably.

Well you shouldnt pick a professor because he's a big shot researcher. You pick him because he's a big shot researcher and he knows you from class and office hours.

Did you ask the professors at the university level if they would write you a letter of rec before you graduated? You said you graduated and took couple lab courses at cc so the university professors might not remember much about you if its been awhile.
