Hi! I'm a freshman majoring in Neuroscience. A few weeks ago, my university (JHU) announced an S/U policy which applies to all second-semester undergraduate courses, and is NOT optional. Obviously, I can appreciate Hopkins doing this as I am aware of the challenges that come with remote instruction--many students don't have a home environment conducive to learning, etc. It also reduces academic pressure for me this semester, which I definitely enjoy.

I am concerned, however, about how this policy will impact future med school admissions. I am aware that many medical schools do not accept covered grades, especially for science courses, and I am taking three major-specific courses this semester. Can we expect med schools to take this whole crazy situation into account in the future?

*I'm not sure if someone's asked this already. If they have, sorry!*

Is this a one time thing due to COVID? If so, med schools will cut you slack. It's only one semester.
Agreed, many schools have already posted updates to their policy regarding this situation.

Back in my day (2016), Hopkins covered freshman fall grades. I applied to 22 schools this current cycle, and none of them so much as batted an eye.

You’ll be fine. Given the current situation, you’ll be among a much larger cohort with a S/U semester under their belts. I expect all reasonable med schools to be 100% understanding.
