Hey Folks, reapplying to programs this year after applying to ten last year and getting interviews at two. My top choice is still Emory as it was last year, where I did interview. I feel like one of my weaknesses last year in the process was that i picked schools by "reputation" and location and then found a POI with someone's interests as close to mine as possible. that worked really well for some schools, such as emory(where i only got turned away due to lack of funding) but overall not so much. SO i'd rather start at the other end, just pick schools that have Professors accepting students and doing schizophrenia research. So I thought i'd ask here while I continue looking of ones ppl might know of.

P.S. I realize that as far as the app process goes I'm a tad behind with just lining my schools up, this time last year i had done that long ago. But, just started a new job, in a new city, the only reason im reapplying right now instead of waiting till next year is that the same POI from emory is accepting students again and i cant bring myself to not apply, so figured might as well do some other good programs as well. Thanks for any advice!

David Penn - UNC
Ty Cannon - UCLA
Ann Kring - Berkeley

Those are quick, off the top of my head. They are all really competitive programs, however.

Ann is a really nice person, although i would qualify that schiz is realy just the disorder to which her work is applied to. Her real passion is affective neuroscience. All three of them colloborate together......so you wont miss out on any of them if your in one of those labs.....

Schuldberg at Montana (balanced program, "balanced [as in, research/clinical]" POI from what I've seen [Montana's individual POIs run the range from v. clinical to very v. research-oriented and everywhere in between in what they look for in students, IMO)

I would add Jeff Bedwell at UCF, John Kerns at Misouri, Angus MacDonald at Minnesota, Micheal Pogue-Geile at pittsburgh, Sohee Parks at Vandy, and several faculty at U of Georgia (Stephen Miller for clinical) to that list as well.

Does anybody know if Dr. Park is taking anyone at Vandy? I emailed her but she never replied.
