Hi everyone. This is my first time posting on SDN. I'm originally from the east coast but I'm strongly considering moving to Chicago for residency. Recently interviewed at U of C and was quite impressed. The PD seems very invested in resident education and the residents appear happy and satisfied with their training. One thing I forgot to ask about on interview day was the call schedule. I looked online and found some info but not much detail. Does anyone who interviewed at U of C know more about the call schedule? In particular I'm interested in third and fourth year. I would also be happy to discuss my impression of U of C if anyone is interested. Thanks for your help.

Pretty sure from talking to their residents there's no 4th year call. Not sure about 3rd year.

Decent program though the lack of their own inpatient unit is a major downside. Really strong consult program. I seriously wish there was an alternate universe where we could take the best parts of UC, UIC, and Northwestern and throw them together into one Chicago program.

That would be amazing, particularly since there are so many sick/interesting/needing patients in the area and it's a fantastic city to live in. As far as U of C, they are definitely invested in your education and my friend who is finishing this year has been quite happy. Hours are generally quite good. Lack of a unit is a definite downside but they certainly do everything possible to try and make up for that.

Did you not get contact info for anyone there during your interview day? This is a perfectly reasonable question to email a resident about.
