I am at a huge crossroads and would really appreciate any advice!

UC Davis
Pros

With scholarships, I would have to pay $15,000/year in tuition
I'm from Northern California (family, friends, S.O. here)
I went here for undergrad, so am familiar with the area and school, I have heard great things about the medical students happiness
#4 in diversity

Cons
More expensive tuition
I did grow up here and would like to experience a new area

-------

University of Colorado
Pros

With scholarships, I would have to pay $0/year in tuition
New area!
Better ranked (?)

Cons
I have heard negative things about the environment
Having to see family, would be a flight home (more money and time)

If you think you can do better at Davis being around your support systems, go there. I always think people should take the money, but 60k isn't a TON of money (but it's a lot). Still, it might be worth it if it's going to make you happier to be around your support systems, and if you do better at Davis because of that, well, that might add monetary value to your career as well.

Both are great - don’t worry about rank. If you really want Davis, the overall cost difference isn’t unmanageable. If family/support is important to you, I’d definitely go Davis.

That being said you shouldn’t have any problems matching back to Ca from Colorado if that’s what you end up choosing.

Personally, I would go to UCD because having a support system nearby for medical school seems important (I'm also an incoming MS1 so you know, I don't know much). Plus UCD has a great administration and their students seem very happy. Like others have said, the debt isn't prohibitive.
