Hey has anyone heard back from U of I yet about interviews for the class of 2017?? I know some people have gotten rejection letters concerning grades so far but I have been anxiously waiting to hear back from the school about interviews.
Hey has anyone heard back from U of I yet about interviews for the class of 2017?? I know some people have gotten rejection letters concerning grades so far but I have been anxiously waiting to hear back from the school about interviews.
Why do you say that wildcatj?
me tooo! i just check it everyday. I know I made it past grades because I corresponded with the admissions office. good luck to you
Hey guys I just called the U of I and asked if they could check if I made it past Phase I. The lady told me that rejection letters for those that had not made it past Phase I were sent already, so if I didn't receive one that I most likely made it. She then checked on the computer anyways, and told me I did make it!!!!! She told me they were "wrapping up Phase II decisions" and we would know "very, very soon" if we got an interview or not. So, since last year's date was 1/10 I'm gonna guess it should be around that date that we will know!!!

Basically, Phase I is grades and GRE score. Phase II is experience, personal statement, LOR's, leadership skills, etc. Phase III is interview. Once you make it past the grades/GRE phase, they don't consider those things again. The final decision is 75% Phase II score and 25% interview score.
eeeee I'm so nervous, and if I don't get in here I don't know what I'll do!!
Saltshaker, did you apply anywhere else this cycle? Best of luck!![]()
how much animal, vet, and leadership experience do you have??
When I first submitted my application, this was the part I was confident in. Now that I know I made it past the grades part and this is what the committee is reviewing, I'm completely second guessing myself.
Experience:
I have ~2000 hours with a mixed animal vet. There I've worked with large animal, small animal, and wildlife.
I have ~100 hours with multiple veterinarians (though I only put down the name of the head veterinarian in charge) when I shadowed at an animal hospital in Thailand. I worked a lot with exotics and equine, as well as some small animal.
I have ~20 hours of animal experience from working at a zoo with exotics.
That's all my experience. I'm worried now because even though I think I have a decent amount of hours, I don't know how the committee will feel about it mostly being with one vet
Leadership activities and what not:
Position in a sorority, pre-vet club president, went to Honduras with Global Medical Brigades, I also studied abroad in Thailand where I worked hard to seek out vet experience and, as I mentioned above, shadowed there as much as I could. I'm in a few other clubs and honor societies but...nothing special.
Thoughts? Good enough?? Competitive? 😕
What about you guys? Let me know!!
I am very impressed with your 2000 hours of mixed animal experience. It might work in your favor that you got additional vet experience in a foreign country. Not a lot of applicants have that type of experience. If you have the chance, see if you can volunteer/work with another type of veterinarian while you are in school or still at home. If you get an interview, these additional experiences will help you during the interview. Plus, it shows the interviewers that you are still determined to be a vet.
I like that you are involved with other organizations other than Pre-Vet Club. (Kudos on being the president!)
I am worried about your animal experience. I am not sure what is an acceptable number of hours or what would be considered diverse. 😕 You could ask Tco.

I also have a question about animal experience. So far I have...
10,000 ..roughly.. as a vet tech in a mixed animal office (we see food/large and small animals)
I haven't added up all my other animal experience yet, which will be mostly exotic and food animal, because i am applying for this next round comming up but I see people asking about working for more than one vet. I have mostly worked under one vet - the one that owns the office. I have worked with two other vets in the same office and only one vet that doesn't work in this same office. Should I go out and shadow in other vet offices or does it matter at all? Its hard for me to shadow other places since I work so much at this office and take a full course load.
I am hoping to get accepted to UofI this year comming up.
So nervous! SO NERVOUS! Should be soon, I'm guessing this week and at the latest next.................................................![]()

Hey you guys,
I called them this morning and asked about where they were in the general admissions process. The woman on the phone notified me that they are done with phase II and they ARE sending out information this week, via postal service. Cross our fingers!
So I caved and called them being that I set up mail forwarding for the break and have gotten 0 pieces of mail from anywhere (note to self and others: never trust USPS vacation forwarding again!), I wanted to make sure I didn't get denied and they said I haven't yet! 😀 She said they should be sending invites/denials and we should get them anywhere from 7-10 days, depending on where we live and also how long it takes the committee to make the cut off since they cannot invite 500 people.!!!!!!!

Wait, you made it past Phase II?!?!?
No, just Phase I but that made me super excited being that my undergrad GPA sucked. Sorry about the confusion.
Wildowl, did the admissions lady hint when they would change our status pages?
Also I just called and asked and they said we'd get our mail before the online page is updated -____-
Does anyone know which address they will send it to? Current or permanent?
I'm guessing school address. I go to school about 30 minutes from the U of I so I should hear really really really soon....................................I'll post here first thing. 😱
