Are all of these alternate letters that people are mentioning alternate letters for IL or MN?? I am confused...

Houston got their letters... What happened to Dallas? I'm expecting news tomm. Mailman knows to knock on door if he sees anything from a vet school. Yeah.. We have become friends ever since I started walking my dog up and down the street in hopes of seeing him.

Haven't been home to check my mail in Florida, but did anyone's status change that got their letter today? I doubt it. But, mine still says application review in progress.

bronanwn-what day is the letter postmarked? I wonder if they sent all the OOS letters first?

I got my letter today....ACCEPTANCE TO THE CLASS OF 2014!! Woot!! :soexcited:

I live right down the street from U of I, so anyone else in the area should be hearing today or tomorrow!!! Good Luck All!!! :xf:

yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

natalieises-
i am looking to you today-if you get a letter-i might get one too! you're in northern Illinois, right? me too-eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeks.

Barnsey - that is FANTASTIC news!!! I'm excited for you!!!! 🙂 I guess we should all be hearing some news today or tomorrow!!!!!

Thanks!! I'm sooo excited!!! I actually got accepted to Mizzou too, so now the decision making begins!!!

Good luck to everyone again! I'm rootin for ya!

I'm in central Illinois not very far from the school but my mail is so much later than usual! I feel like such a creeper checking the mail so much!

Nothing in Florida.

Soo.. what do the letters look like? Is alternate small? Is acceptance large? What color?

Sorry I'm not at home now, stuck in an airport trying to get to UTK.
Will check when I get home in a couple of days.
Hopefully you'll have good news before then, let us know!

I got an email letter from the Veterinary Medical Scholars Program today that I was accepted, so I can stop running to check the mail every five minutes. Now if only NC State would decide to send letters out...

I'm in Northern IL.....

no letters today.

🙁

my mailman has NOT shown up yet...I'm going insane. How can the delivery time change by over 4 hours in one day..bah:scared:

oh well. if zoogirl, you didn't get your yet, there's no way i will be getting mine in Chicago. at least i'm working at the ER tonight to keep my mind occupied.....

I'm going out of town tomorrow morning for UTk and won't be back until Monday (on spring break). Guess I'm relying on the status page. booo

Well my mailman finally arrived just as I was opening the door to go for a stop freaking out run. I got my letter....Alternate with a "possibility" of getting in. I am in state. I've been stalking last year's thread but does anyone know the different ranks for alternates??? Is it just possible, somewhat likely, and unlikely? or are there more??? Blah....third year waitlist is torture.

I'm pretty sure those are the 3 rankings. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I believe I also read somewhere on here that if you get the "possibility" letter that means you are within the top 10 IS applicants on the waitlist. I know of a couple in-staters that got in off the waitlist last year so don't lose hope!

Honestly, this being my third year I was expecting alternate status. I'm not a pessimist, but I do know my gpa is not stellar and is holding me back. However, when I saw the "possibility" I did feel a little spark of hope still there. lol. Where's Truth with all the info for me????

My acceptance letter came in a normal sized, white envelope, probably the same as the alternative letters, with only two pieces of paper and a small card inside. Sorry that won't be any help when you get your mail.

I was under the impression that they didn't look at GPA after Phase 1. Have I been wrong this whole time?

🙂 Got accepted!

It comes in the most innocuous appearing envelope ever, it looks just like any other university correspondence that the U of I sends out. It came at the same time as a pamphlet for my graduation information and I didn't even notice it until I saw "College of Veterinary Medicine" on the envelope! Haha.

🙂 Good luck and congrats everyone!

Well they don't look at your gpa but it is still a part of what they already calculated into your score I think?

No I thought it was 25% Phase 3 (interview) and 75% Phase 2. I believe that this information is on the website. Link forthcoming.

Edit:http://vetmed.illinois.edu/asa/brochure/02.html

"(Phase I score is not considered as part of the final ranking)
Phase II score = 75% of final decision
Phase III score =25% of final decision"

thanks! Honestly my brain and body are way too exhausted for rational thought at this point. Anyway the gist of it is I wasn't surprised about getting an alternate letter since it is my third round. But I'm still positive and hoping for some good news in April. Sorry for the confusion

That's ok, I just don't want someone to be confused by the statements in the future. By the way, Truth said she got in last year off of the waitlist with a "possibility" so you are in good shape I think! I guess the rest of us will see tomorrow!

I'm confused enough for all of us! lol Good luck everyone with the mail tomorrow!

Hi there!

I'm in the middle of studying for finals, so haven't been paying attention to the freak outs.

Sorry, I wasn't here to calm people down.

Yes, I got in with a possibility letter... in April. That 3 weeks was a really long time. The categories that I have heard of are: Likely: within the top 5 (IS) or top 10 (OOS) Possibility: meaning within the first 5 to 10 (IS) or up to 20 (OOS) Not likely: over 15 (IS) or over 25 (OOS)

These are vague numbers, because it varies from year to year. If you see likely or possibility, you have a better shot at getting in than some. The out of state people can get in with a not likely, because a lot of out of staters want to go to their in state school. Their line moves way farther than the in state line.

As was said before, they do not look at your grades after phase 1. They just add the points from the interview to the points that you accumulated through supplemental and VMCAS. If you rocked the interview and got great scores from all three, then that's about 25% of your application, right there.👍
If you didn't do so hot at your interview, that's about 25% of the points right there.👎

My fingers are crossed for the people that haven't heard yet.

Back to Cardiovascular Physiology for me.

Thanks for the info. Truth. Looks like it's back to the waiting game for me. I guess I'll be going on a lot more "stop freaking out" runs

So, I'm out of state, and I didn't see any type of "ranking" on my letter. It actually says, "Policy precludes me from disclosing your exact position on the Alternate List."

Does anybody else's say this? Or does this pretty much mean I'm not getting in?😕

I am not sure how to quote something on here but "vetmed2014" I HAVE THE SAME THING---nothing about a possibility. Are we sure that is the way they r doing things here this year? I am freaking out!!! 😱

Haha- yea really. Good thing to know I'm not the only one (and I'm sure we're not the only 2). I just figured everyone's said the same, but then i saw the whole possibility thing and freaked out, too. lol.

P.S.- To quote something, just hit the "quote" button on the thread that you want to quote. Then, you can even delete some of the quote if it's too long.

yeah... i'm actually from a suburb of chicago, but I remember my interview invite letter took almost a week longer than other people's to get here.
🙁

I have a few friends who are up in south-central illinois and they have no letter yet either.

After the sentence that says they can't tell you your rank is there one that says... "At this time, given your relative position on the list, there is a possibility (in bold) that you will be offered admission in the class of 2014" And the word possibility may be likely, somewhat likely, or unlikely. Reread and see if you skipped over that. I knew to look for it, but I could see that you might just pass over it if you weren't aware of it beforehand.

WELL.....

If anyone is waitlisted for IS, you might have a shot!!
I am IS, and I'm about 95% sure that I am going to Minnesota....
Which means a spot on the IS waitlist should open up. 🙂

So good luck to those waitlisters!!

Accepted!!!!! Wooohooo!!!! Happy dance, happy dance! It is so relieving to know that I finally have accomplished the goal I set when I was 5 years old! And to get mY education at my first choice school! I am soooo excited! I'm OOS from so-cal and currently residing in Miami, FL.

I got my acceptance letter today too! I'm IS too, but I'm almost positive I'm going to end up accepting my offer at Purdue...

I went to Purdue for undergrad, and know a lot of people in the vet school now. If there's anything you want to know about the school or city or whatever let me know and I'll ask around.

Ugh this is so aggravating! I can't possibly wait until Monday to find out. Come on online status!

looking forward to meeting everyone... Class of 2014 here I come! 😛
