YAYYYYYYYYYY!!!! i am hoping i dont hear from my other interviews right away because my mom gave me the impression on the phone right now that it would be nice if i could withdraw and save the money. but i really really want to visit the school (and my old friend in st. louis)!

Yeah my mom feels the same way about my other interviews too. Definitely worth it for you to come though I think.

So... this may seem like an odd question... but does everyone's status page still say interview offered?

pending! haha what the heck, I already added my name to the 'official interviews' thread, they better not take this away from me!!

extremely irritating.

should somebody call and see what the dealio is?

hrm. ok. I just called and the person told me that the status change was accidental, that the 'pending' status is what it should've said all along. She said that whatever your status changed to was not necessarily correct. They sent out letters and our actual interview status will be on those letters. Wow, this is a big mistake to make, Illinois.
The thing is-some people saw 'interview not offered', correct? grrr.

i think that i jinxed us yesterday when i said i hoped it wasn't a mistake... sorry guys!

This is very irritating. I called up there and she told me it was a "glitch" - I'm thinking because the letters have not been mailed out they do not want it updated... I remember the status saying - please watch for letter mailed on 1/19, so I think we'll see an update on the status closer to the 19th. She did tell me the letters were going out around the middle of next week...

....I just remembered, so I said 'my status said 'interview offered', is that still the case?' and she said, 'not necessarily, everyone got that...'. which isn't true, right? W T F?

thats some 'glitch'.

I'm thinking its something similar to another school earlier this cycle...I can't remember which school cause I didn't apply there but peoples status updates changed and then the school said it had been an error and it went back to pending...but really in the end what people had seen during the 'error' was really what they ended up getting after all was said and done.

which school was that? anyone remember?

Pigsfoot - I think you're right - there were a few folks who said their page changed to "interview not offered"

I knew it seemed crazy that most of us got interviews...well good luck everyone hopefully most of us will still get the invite.

They seem to think the whole "glitch" theory will work on us. Honestly I think they are lying again and what you saw was the truth, but maybe it got released earlier than they had wanted/planned. There's clearly some serious miscommunication going on in that office!

I hope you're right, Natalie. Otherwise, glitch or not, that is a stinky, ****ty thing for Illinois to do. If I got an interview invite and then had it redacted... well, I'd be f'n pissed to say the least.

Wow...ouch. I am glad I told everyone I received an invitation to interview at UofI...
So the letters were mailed or are going to be mailed? And if they spend 44 cents on each of us the letters can't be a glitch, right?

Wow. Last year and the year before that, they did have a system down message, then the actual status changed. We had some odd stuff going on with our intranet and Compass (our Webct type service) between Wednesday and today, so it might have been a system-wide problem.

Sorry you guys have to wait up to a week (California took about that long last year) to get your "real" answer.

The interview process has been conducted on a Monday for the past ten years, at least. Every year they invite Alumni to participate in the process (they make up 1/3 of the 3 interviewers). If you aren't able to make it on that one day, there are no alternate days. None. I haven't heard of anyone missing the interview day and getting an interview at a different day. I HAVE heard of applicants missing flights and being interviewed later in the day, but never another day all together.

I'm hoping you guys will know for sure sooner than that.

dear illinois,

if you cant handle a website stop trying to be high tech and remove it from your application process.

😡,

blackat

I bought a suit and told my grandma... and everyone else in creation.

It just doesn't make sense. I'm not an IT person or anything but even if the site did have a glich how would the interview status be changed but with different responses (interview/no interview). So say the site did mess up, the status changed, shouldnt EVERYONES be changed to one thing. How would the computer randomly assign an interview or no interview status, unless it was already pre written in the spot and someone accidental released the data.

Thats all i can think of. Ive never heard of a site randomly f'ing up but only ONE thing changes (not our classes or gpa) and different people had different changes.

That is what I'm hoping. It really is the only thing that makes any sort of sense...

Aw, don't return the suit yet 🙂. I agree with BlacKAT. While I am sure that many of you are really antsy like me and want to know what is up, I am sure that everything was sent prematurely too and everyone's stuff is the same. I bet it will be ok come next week.:luck:

I also think that the information was released before their liking - it was weird reading "Interview offered - please watch for letter mailed on 1/19/10" since it was written past tense.... I think the status will go back to what we saw, only I think we'll be waiting until the 19th or 20th to see it. If not – we should be getting those letters next week or the week after (depending on location) since they are going out on the 19th.

It was not just one site. It was a server issue. Possibly more than one server. As I said previously, there were problems with more than one area. All of those areas were password protected like your status pages. Yes, the admissions office knows who is getting an invitation by now, but if they are having problems with the site, they don't want you to believe what the site is saying, because they can't guarantee that the information for each individual is correct. No, they will not give you your individual status over the phone, because they can not field thousands of calls for a yes or no(let alone verify who you are). It could be that they were running an "in-house" test for the change over to the correct status and that wave of problems from the server made those tests visible to applicants.

I know that sounds lame, but I would wait for your letter before thinking in absolutes.

It is not a new status system. This problem did not occur last year or the year before when I applied, using the same system.

I'm sorry that they added one more layer of stress for you guys, this year.

Illinois is def. one of my top choices. But it's a little discouraging to have something like this happen twice now (and perhaps multiple years in a row). I hate to say it... but it makes me wonder how organized the university/administration is?

That being said... I"m in love with the program, the school, the area... and basically everything.... so I'm still hoping for the best.

Mine still says interview not offered. I guess they're really sure about rejecting me.

so what's the deal? those who said "not offered" are not offered interviews. those who were offered, may not be offered interviews.

?

or is it everyone's status is up in the air, and will know in a week or two?

according to Truth it is all up in the air right now.

smilieystar-i am also a little discouraged, a university should not be having this many problems each year. I can just imagine all of the crazy Med parents calling to complain if this happened to them. Why do they think its not a big deal for us vet students? i understand the server crashing and the website not working, but false information being posted? its a little ridiculous they haven't learned to fix the problem since its happened before (and once this year). and if the same results do end up being mailed (like what happened in Dec) I think it is inconsiderate that they intentionally make us all panic about our status now when it is not necessary. Anywho, I am also very interested in IL's new program and I hope I am able to see the school and talk with grad students if I still have an interview

So I just realized that there are no business days between yesterday when the server went down and Jan 19th (Tues) when they said the letters would be sent(according to the "fake" status update). So unless they plan on entering everyone's status, printing all the letters about it, sealing and stamping them, and mailing them all on Tuesday then the statuses have to be right and someone just accidentally posted them. Who knows, but it makes me feel better lol

A vet student I work with as a surgical tech told me yesterday that Illinois doesn't have a SAS cardio rotation during clinicals, and that if the student wants to do a cardio ratation he or she has to make arrangements to complete it elsewhere. For students at Illinois now, is this difficult to go about doing? What other schools have similar situations?

Hmm... a salient point. I am feeling ok about things (as opposed to the typical anxiety and despair that I have been feeling in the last few weeks...lol). I really think the info might be correct and they were not supposed to post it... or maybe it is just wishful thinking.

To clarify what I said before:
... Last year and the year before that, they did have a system down message, then the actual status changed. To the correct application status. This happened within the 12hrs that the correct status was posted. They can't switch it while someone is on the site. This year We had some odd stuff going on with our university-wide intranet and Compass (our university-wide Webct type service) between Wednesday and yesterday, so it might have been a system-wide problem. For this year.

I then later said:

Last year and the year before, the site wouldn't let you go in, then you got your correct application status later that day.

Sorry for any confusion I may have caused about previous year's occurrences.

Thanks Truth! I'm going to be an optimist and say I got an interview. Let's stop talking about all of this nonsense, as I don't think it will do any good until we actually get mail, which I estimate to be next Thursday or Friday. Truth, are you helping out with tours this year? Any tips from the pro for Illinois interview preparation? I have looked at the interview feedback so far but am not sure what else to do.

I'm defintiely not the pro on interviews, because that's how I got passed over the first application cycle. Mary was so disappointed.

I'll pass on what she told me. Look over a list of behavioral interview questions and think of (or write down) stories that will answer the question and show how you would handle the situation. Go over your answers with other people, like an advisor, one of your references, your mom (if she'll be objective), and friends. These people may be able to point out if you are filling dead space (uh, um, errr) or just rambling along off topic.

I do not mean memorize your answers, but know what you want to include. These people haven't read your spectacular personal statement or seen your gpa and GRE scores. They want it that way to see what kind of impression you make cold. If a person thinks that they may know you, they will move to someone that they don't know.

I would also recommend going on the tour, even if you're a townie, and mingle with the other applicants. This helped my nervousness, because I saw how everyone else was feeling.

We haven't set who is going to be doing what for interview day, but I'll be around. (Maybe in the atrium or maybe taking tours out) I'm hard to miss, because I'm me. 😀

Thank you Truth for all of the info. I have nothing that helpful to say but I thought I might try to lighten the mood a little more...

Today at work (at a small animal clinic) two very entertaining things happened.
First: An elderly man wanted heartworm prevention for his dog and asked for a box of intercourse instead of interceptor.

Second: An elderly lady (I live in Florida) needed help getting her dog out of her car (dachshund- down in back 🙁). I went out to her car and we could not see the dog. The car was rather messy so I started moving things around and trying to look under the seats- still no dog. I asked her to unlock the other side and when she tried she couldn't. She stoped and then told me it was not her car. I looked up and in the car next to us was the dachshund, looking at us like "what are you guys doing?".

Sorry if that was totally inappropriate but I'm sick of stressing about things...

😀 great stories adunastella!

I'm currently killing time in my hotel in Missouri waiting to interview first thing tomorrow morning and I appreciate all the humor I can get to take my mind off of this silly process.

dude this sux... i really hope i still have my interview offer... i would hate to have to change me fb status

Yeah... Illinois is pretty disorganized. I'm sorry you guys have to go through all the added stress. The disorganization, sadly, doesn't go away once you're in school here. The left hand never really seems to know what the right hand is doing. It will probably be better for your class, though, since you won't be the new curriculum guinea pigs like our class was. One word of advice if you end up going here: talk to your big sib about what to buy for clinics instead of going off the list they give you. They had us buy a whole bunch of stuff that turned out to be unnecessary (ex: 1. They told us we had to buy new scrubs from them and couldn't wear scrubs we already had because it was a biosecurity issue. Once we got in clinics, the clinicians told us we could wear whatever scrubs we wanted, even ones we wore back home. Money wasted. 2. They also made us order boot covers for our large animal rotations, but they took forever to come in and most people had to end up going out and buying additional boots anyways. It turns out the boot covers they made us buy were the short ones, and for the rotations we should have the tall covers so that cow **** doesn't fall in the tops of them. Money wasted. 3. We had to buy a set of surgical instruments that included suture scissors, bandage scissors, hemostats, and towel clamps. For the suturing we learned on our rotations, we could have spent ~ $10 for the tools necessary for suturing and not bought a $70 kit with a bunch of things we'll never use. Money definitely wasted. I mean, it's not like we're going to bring in our own towel clamps for junior surgery and wait around while they get sterilized! The Clinical Skills Center has sets of instruments that you can play with anyways, so it's not even like you need them just to familiarize yourself. ) I don't think they were just trying to rip us off (hopefully), but whoever came up with the package for us to buy obviously didn't know what we actually needed. I spent over $200 on the package and didn't end up using a majority of what I bought.

Well, my status has said "Interview not offered" since December and hasn't changed, but my friend's status changed to the "Interview offered" a couple days ago...I really hope that the status system is so screwed up that it doesn't mean anything, but I'm afraid that is just wishful thinking...
