Is anyone here applying to U of Iowa?
I haven't been able to find any current or prospective students yet on this forum, but I thought I'd give it one last shot.
Hawkeyes, are you out there?

Sorry, no Hawkeye here. I was going to apply to Iowa, but after playing email-tag with an admissions counselor, I realized it wasn't going to happen this year. THere are too many classes from my undergrad that they won't accept, which requires me to take more pre-reqs than I can handle this year (I have a full-time and a part-time job, volunteer, and taking one class). For example, I took an anat/phys class, which doesn't fulfill the one anatomy req and the one phys req. What is funny is that my school didn't even offer two classes (I went to a small private college in MN)! So, if I don't get accepted this year at the schools where my classes fit their pre-req list, I will be applying to Iowa for next year. Good luck getting accepted into their program!

to bad about those prereqs...what other schools are you applying too? i assume U. of Minnesota?

The u of mn, and that's it! I have been praying a lot more lately! I became firmly decided on pharmacy during the late summer of last year, so I wasn't able to fulfill the pre-reqs, personal statement, and PCAT in time to apply to a few more schools. I am not too sure how competitive I actually am, but hopefully the U sees something they like in my application! Are you from Iowa or did you just go to school there? Where else are you applying?

I know a couple of guys that went to Iowa for pharmacy. They both are currently in Chicago. They graduated back in 2000 and seemed to love going to school there. Are you from the Midwest? Iowa City is the best place to be if you are going to be in Iowa. The winters can be really cold and they get a fair amount of snow there but if you can hack that you should be alright. I also have a couple of friends that did undergrad and PT school there. Iowa's PT school is supposed to be one of the best but they didn't think too highly of it. As for the pharmacists I spoke to one of them around Thanksgiving and he said that if he had to go back to school for pharmacy Iowa would still be his top choice followed by Arizona. I wish I could give you more insight but that is about all I know at the momment. I thought about applying to Iowa myself but my better half would kill me before moving to Iowa. Good luck to you and I will see if I can find out any insider info.

soopapharm--yeah, i'm from (living in) the midwest - Dubuque, Iowa (I'm originally from Canada) to be exact. I agree with you, Iowa City is the best spot out this way...I've visited the school and liked the town quite a bit. thanks for the feedback! no joke about those winters!

lynzee--i've applied to Midwestern (Chicago), U of Iowa, U of Kentucky, Creighton, and U of Southern Nevada. I would probably have applied to U of Mn but, as with you, I didn't satisfy the prereqs. I'm interviewing at U of I on Feb 5. Good luck with U of Mn!

Since I go to school in Illinois...so I applied to UIC, Midwestern...and UCSF (I got rejected...)

I applied to U of Iowa because my friend is from Iowa and a lot of her friends go to school there. According to her and her friends, this school has high academic reputation and good pharm D program. I can't think of any other reasons now... I heard that it's very cold in Iowa!
how about you, skp?

Well, your absolutely right about the cold...this is why I applied to some more southerly (is this a word?) schools...University of Southern Nevada and University of Kentucky. I also applied to Creighton and like you, Midwestern.

I know a few pharmacists who have graduated from University of Iowa and they only have good things to say. I am also living in Iowa which may help my chances of getting in (i need all the help i can get!). I've been down to the school twice and have been impressed by the staff that i've come in contact with. I don't know too much more than this but hopefully I will be more informed after this weekend. I'll let you know what questions I get and about the interview day in general.

Thanks a lot!
I heard that their interview is long...
Good luck with your interview!

It's a 30 min interview. 45 Min writing assessment (maybe 30 min). Then a 15 min tour of the pharmacy building.

Hello^^

This is my first time posting,
but I've applied to U of Iowa also.
My interview is scheduled on the 19th.

I'm pretty terrified just about now @_@;;

can't sleep ...2am...interview at 8:30...must keep it together... :scared:

we'll i made it 👍
a brief summary for those interested parties:

my schedule was like this
8:30 interview
9:30 writing exercise
11:00 tour

some people had interview at 11, tour 8:30, etc. etc.

very nice people...the associate dean, financial aid lady just hung out with us if we had any down time...me 'n another guy talked some basketball with the associate dean...cool!

interview wasn't as stressful as U. of Southern Nevada for me but I still managed to screw up the first question - i just get tongue tied and can't spit out what I want to say sometimes - oh well, i think (hope) i redeemed myself as the rest of the interview went really well.

another positive - one of my interviewers was on the clinical pharmacy faculty so he could tell me all about those things (residencies, etc.) and he got to see the clinical side was what i really am interested in.

one thing, since the interview questions are standarized (everybody gets the same ones), the college requested we don't devulge any of them beforehand. i really wish I could, but I want to honor that request. I recommend doing the search feature and reading interview question threads and also reading up in the pharmacy interview section.

good luck all,
skp 👍

I got an interview scheduled on Feb 17th....

looking forward to it.....

Legaia - can i pm you with some questions?

Hey!
There have been a few U of Iowa posts on here lately.. I applied for this fall semester and have an interview on Feb. 10!

I am a big fat loser and haven't received an interview🙁 🙁

I am interviewing at Iowa Feb.17th too. As you know, I spent most of my life in Florida so I have to adjust to the weather in Iowa. The reasons I applied are due to its academic reputation and also my professor who happens to be an University of Iowa alumni.

I applied University of Iowa too, but didnt hear anything from them yet. I applied pretty late. I am from nevada, never been to Iowa.
