University of Iowa

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I applied to Iowa and was accepted for the 2011 class, but I declined since Creighton offered. I still need to get my thank you letter to Dean Kelly though.😳😳😳

Do you have any questions? I'm not an expert but I can answer some questions.

YOU ARE SO LUCKY TO HAVE OPTIONS!!!

I applied and interviewed last year but I had some stats dragging me down:

-Math/Science: 2.5
-Cumulative: 3.2/120 semester hours
-PCAT: 41 (horrible, but I feel better knowing I didn't study what-so-ever)
-Pharmacy Tech 2 years
-BS Psychology
-Big Brothers Big Sisters, Pharmacy Volunteer, Habitat, ETC., Etc.

What do you think I need to do to get in this year? I'm retaking two science courses that were my lowest so my Math and Science has the potential to go to a 2.8 at least. Obviously I can do better on my PCAT.

Iowa is stat-friendlier as they do examine the person behind the stat, but that 41 PCAT is getting you nowhere. The fact that you have constantly mentioned that you did not study at all for the exam coupled with your statement on the PCAT board that you had to guess on 80% of the problems clearly represent the root of your problems.

I would work on boosting that math/science GPA with relevant classes and actually try on the PCAT before reapplying. Everything else on your application is fine. Getting an interview means that you aren't far off in getting admission as Iowa only interviews about 250 candidates and accepts somewhere around 110.

yeah, i'm not boasting that i didn't study, i'm just trying to reiterate i'm not a complete idiot.

i didn't study because i was fighting leukemia.

Thanks for your help!

I'm sorry about your leukemia, but I wasn't trying to imply that you were stupid just in case that what was what you were thinking. Like I simply said, you really mentioned the root of your problems by saying that you didn't study. We can only interpret what you explicitly say. I try to avoid "reading between the lines" on message board because there's no way for me to gauge the true tone of any post.😉

As I said, you got an interview at Iowa with that low PCAT so it's obvious that you could get in with a little more hard work on the PCAT.🙂

I am also applying as an out-of-stater. Right now I think Iowa is my top choice school, although I do feel a little uncertain since my tuition would be so high. Good luck to everybody!
