Does anyone have any opinions on UIowa's program. I'm trying to decide whether or not its worth the extra money over University of Colorado
Thanks for any and all opinions

I don't know much about the programs, but I would actually recommend Iowa City as a location. I did my undergraduate at Grinnell College in Iowa, and I took many trips to Iowa City. From what I expected out of a city in Iowa (not to be snobby), it far surpassed my expectations. The city has such a large population from the college, that most of the city is college-town like. There is a nice selection of stores, restaraunts and the famous ped-mall. We often organized weekend trips there to go to the vegan grocery store and go out for Indian food.

Although that probably does not help much, the cost of living is low and it is very safe as well. I would recommend establishing state residency and getting in-state tuition.

Good luck and congrats!

jessica

by the way, i have been to many cities in the world, so i have a good basis of comparison.

How much more expensive is it to go to Iowa over Colorado (for you)?

You asked for opinions, so here it is:

Iowa is the "Harvard of the midwest" when it comes to dental school.

Iowa is a top-notch program, and the stats of their matriculating students are always some of the highest year in and year out.

It would NOT be unfathomable to see that the average DAT score of their matriculants this year would be a 22 with no GPA lower than a 3.5.

Since you've obtained admissions, I'd like to know what your stats are, if you don't mind sharing.

But to sum: Iowa is a special program and trains very competent doctors.

Thanks all for your opinions,

To oates: I applied for the Dental Research Award ($60,000). If I get this the difference will be about 7,000-Iowa being more expensive-and well worth it in my opinion. If I don't it will be 67,000 more--I'd have a tougher decision to make, but I really loved the school when I visited.

To ItsGavinC: My stats are cumulative GPA: 3.76(Biochemistry Major), Science GPA 3.74, DAT 20/20/23, Colorado resident

The faculty at UNC have nothing but good things to say about Iowa. In fact, you'll find that many faculty at Iowa have probably taught at Carolina, as many of our faculty have come from Iowa. There's almost an incestuous relationship between the two schools when it comes to faculty.
