Hi,
I'm a current second year student at UL.
Basically the interview is as follows,
the morning is spent doing a group exercise. This is basically to assess how you work with people. If you are able to work in a group effectively as the majority of class work is done in small groups of 8-10 people.
the afternoon session is your private interview. This will range from 15-30 min. They will ask you questions about your CV, your reference letters and about your interests in medicine. Everyone got very different answers. For example, most of my background is sports related so most of my interview was about how I could incorporate that into medicine and why I chose medicine instead of something else. Then they threw me for a loop and asked if i was a competitive person and if I saw that as a detriment to PBL learning. Other people got asked questions about other experiences, for example my roommate got asked about her experiences in Afghanistan.
I have yet to hear of anyone being asked to explain an answer in front of a panel of doctors for the interview. you are in a room with 2 doctors. Its very informal. I ended up talking about the Munster rugby team for a good portion of mine.
I hope that helps.
If you have any questions about the school, let me know. I'm the new student liaison for international students so I will be setting up a facebook page for all the new UL med students that will have a private email you can ask any questions too. That will be set up after the interviews.
Good Luck
