Does anyone know how the U. of Lodz students score on the USMLE's?
Also, does anyone know if European educated MD's have a problem being listed with Insurance providers? I heard this morning that Insurance providers do not like to list European MD's.
Any other info on the U. of Lodz would also be appreciated.

Thanks 🙂

I've heard the U. of Lodz is a good school. I am planning to attend there in October. It is a WHO school, ECFMG certified, and students can take the USMLE's or EU/UK licensure exams coming from there. I'm from the US. If you hear anything about pass rates on the licensure exams let me know.

Hi there, I just wanted to say that USMLE scores have nothing to do with where you go to school. I graduated from Jagiellonian in 2004 and scores in my class ranged from failed to 99s. Getting a good score in the exam depends on how much time you put in studying when the time comes.
Anyway, Poland is a phenomenal country, with lots of things to do, friendly people, and thousands of foreign students looking for a good time. I enjoyed my 4 years in Krakow and have no regrets at all. Good luck!

Hello Chinesedoc...

I was just curious if you have also considered attending a school in the Carribean islands? Why have you chosen Poland?

Best Wishes!!!!
Good luck in school!

I'd have to say ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh half true to that. While studying certaintly is what makes it there is defintley a correlation between USMLE scores and schools. (I am not flaming any schools in any way) The amount of preparation the schools offer, the aim of the curriculum in preparing, and a host of other factors play some sort of role....there has to be some sort of reason that failing the boards is much less common in us allopathic than in foreign schools .I feel as a whole maybe part of it could be the younger age or the general lack of preparation some people have....but as a whole matching and boards scores are a very good thing to look at when choosing a school. I'd defintley pick the school that had a 90 percent passrate on first try over a 75 percent.

If you compare the curriculum of any two medical schools in the world you'll realize they are essentially the same, they most probably use the same books even. Regardless of where you are, you must study hard to pass your exams, period. I would be very careful to quote passing rates from x or y school since these numbers mean different things for different schools. For example many Carribean schools have weeding out mechanisms that prevent some students from taking the exam to precisely maintain good usmle passing rates.

The bottom line is even if your school has a 90% passing rate on the USMLE; you know what this means...? It means that if you study hard you will pass the exam. And if it has a 50% passing rate...it means just the same!

No way!!! I am a grad from Medical University of Lodz and did a US residency with US grads and we are way different. On a side note, I am from Poland so it was free... bonus.

In poland we only "talk" and "read" about vents. My day in the ICU as a PGY1 i was way lost; at least the US grads got to see what a "live" patient looks like on a vent...

I passed USMLE1&2 in the high 90's and CSA pass. This was not thanks to my school or poland. I did this all on my own and did it in a total of 6 months. I am not looking for a pat on the back, but you need to bust ass from a non US school if you want to make any cut in residency in the US.

As far as fellowship cut your chances in half and then in half again. I also have a PhD in Endo with over 40 pubs now and it was hard for me to get a fellowship. I did get one and at a very good one; again this was because I published and did my own part. Never look to a school to get you in anyplace. School is the first step, now your on your own. US schools do hand hold a bit more.

Good luck!

Hey happy...

I was accepted to AUA and KMC as well as ULM, and it was a really hard decision. My main persuasions... my little girl will be going to primary school where ever I end up. The schools, for her, are best in India and Poland out of the three. The program at Lodz seems better than at KMC. The U of Lodz is a WHO school. And we have a family house in Italy... bonus 😉

Please take note.

It is Medical University of Lodz.

Can you tell me where you did clinical sciences and if it was easy to do them back to back without any lapse of time. I was worried about the different clinical sites in the US and that not all clinicals can be finished at one site. Do you know how is the clinical site in the UK?
Thanks 🙂

No idea on where you would do your clinical work in UK. I did all my work in PL as I am a citz. At the point of med school I had no desire to go outside of PL until I met my husband.

Dr. NewGuyBob:

Did you have any Polish language skills or knowledge of the culture prior to attending 'J' ?

Also, what are you specializing in now that you've pass the USMLEs ?
