Offered aways at University of Louisville and Loyola in Chicago and was wondering if anyone had any insight on these two EM programs? All I know is that they are university programs. In terms of location, I'm fine with either. In terms of scheduling, Chicago is in August and Louisville would be later in the year. If I could do both, I would, but given the restrictions CORD has set, just want some help in making a decision. Thanks!

I know you say location doesn't matter, but that's really the difference. If you do well, your SLOE from that program will get you interviews - while to some extent it will help nationally, moreso the department leadership at places nearby to that program will be familiar with them and more likely to extend you an interview.

I am a resident at U of L. We are very trauma heavy. We let our medical students do a lot during their rotation. I did an away rotation as an MS4 here and I remember suturing a pretty gnarly nose laceration by myself among other stuff. You do not do notes. If you perform well here we will put you high on our rank list. The biggest benefit to our program in my opinion is the responsibilities you get as a resident in taking charge of the ED. That being said if you do an away in a location near a location where you eventually want to end up more programs will know the quality of your SLOE. Send me a message if you have questions.
