Hi all-

Have any of you received UMD interviews yet? I have yet to hear from them, and I am in-state. I am wondering if other in-state-ers (or those from out of state) have heard from them for interview or have not?

I know the school is rolling...so I'm wondering if interviews have gotten underway and if a lot of people have or have not heard back from them yet.

nope, haven't heard.

I saw one or two UM interview invites posted on the interview thread. I am an MD resident too and sent in my secondary about six weeks ago, but aside from being notified my application was complete I have not heard a thing.

When did you send in your secondary and how were you notified about an interview?

I'm instate and I received an invitation Sept. 29th and I was complete on Sept. 3rd

Did you receive your invitation by snail mail or by email (or by phone)? Also, did you receive a letter/email saying you were complete or are you going by the date on your online status page? Thanks adog -- any info can help put the rest of our minds at ease or at least allow us to pace ourselves in expecting to hear from UMD.

I received the invitation by e-mail. I never received a letter or e-mail telling me that I was complete. Although I did receive a letter saying that I qualified for in state status a couple weeks ago.

Sorry about the delay guys. I got an email last Thursday. Never got a confirmation of anything beyond them successfully charging my credit card for the secondary fee...that was on August 12 or 17 or something like that.

Good luck with it all.

got an interview at maryland a couple days after i was complete. i'm a resident. they called me and said they were trying to interview people "in the area" because they were trying to get the ball rolling with interviews...so if you are in state, but living out of state for school, that could be a reason why they're waiting on you...cuz i talked to them on a friday and came in that monday...it was really short notice...i was in the first group of non ED applicants...the applicants all seemed pretty impressive...it seemed like everyone was from an ivy...princeton, columbia, brown, upenn, but they are JUST getting started so don't worry. they were really nice at the admissions office so if you have any questions, email them.
if you are a state resident and you are a strong applicant, don't worry, maryland will show you love!

Does anyone know if the University of Maryland screens pre-sec? I couldn't find it anywhere...

Thanks,
Emily

They do not screen.

I finally got a UMD interview invite (YAY). But of all the days in October, they decided to schedule me on the same day I have another interview. Has anyone had trouble rescheduling interviews at UMD?

Whatever you do, get the change in on time and call them to check regurlarly. I asked for a date change and did not get a word back onto a week or few days more, before the interview. They are extremely slow, got mad and just canceled my interview. Good luck though

Are you serious?? Damn it. I didn't know it was such a pain to reschedule. Hmm. I don't have a choice though. I have to change my date. 😡 😡 😡

Thanks for the info Nflow 🙂

I had to reschedule and I called them almost immediately after receiving the e-mail. They were very nice and pretty flexible about changing the interview time and I received a confirmation change within 30 minutes of my phone call.

Congrats to those that have received interview from UMD. 👍 If you guys don't mind, could you guys post your stats? So I know what's my chances of getting an interview from them.

hey guys and gals,

good luck to those of you who have received interviews and to those of you still waiting. we just started interviewing two mondays ago (today is 10/10), i know because you see all the nice suits walk through the school about 1pm. i'm sure that this year everyone who filled out AMCAS will get a secondary. you guys have the advantage of filling it out online - i had to do a paper application. interviews are on mondays and wednesdays every week. i'm pretty sure the admissions committee meets on mondays, about every two weeks. maryland residents usually get an interview, at least that's the way its always been. check out the info on the admissions site to give you an idea of the class breakdown and some numbers on interviews, acceptances, etc.

Again, good luck and keep on truckin'. feel free to post any general questions and i'll do my best to give an unbiased answer - in the meantime, i'll go back to studying for tomorrow's bacteriology exam. ciao.

Hi cytoskelement 🙂

Have any of your classmates gone abroad either during the summer or during 3rd/4th year? I haven't seen anything on the UMD website about international opportunities.

How stressful are the classes? Some of my friends say they get a lot of C's and that courses are stressful b/c y'all have grades. Very few people receive A's...

Do most people live around the school or do they commute? I live like 45 minutes away... and since I'm cheap, it would save me a lot of $$ to just commute from home. But then again, paying $4 for parking everyday seems a bit expensive. What do you think?

Good luck on your exam :luck: :luck:

Was MD really slow in processing LORs? I called them 1.5 weeks ago and they said they had my LORs but the website isn't updated yet...

Also, I sent in my residency status page like 2.5 weeks ago and haven't heard from them about that either yet...just long processing time or should i call/email and check?

I'm also eagerly awaiting a UMD interview...

Thanks!

I remember it took a while to receive my "i qualify for in state tuition" letter. I don't remeber exactly how long it took though.

Oh, and the people in the Admissions Office were actually really nice about letting me reschedule my interview. Basically they just asked me when I wanted to come and then they confirmed that date a few hours later 🙂

I have received an invite two days ago. Very happy, b/c i'm aout of state but would like to attend UMD.
Good luck to everybody.

I had my LORs processed 10/13...and my recs were posted on virtualevals and have been up since 9/1...I submitted my app 9/20...so I guess its taking UMD ~3.5 weeks to process applications...I'm really hoping I get an interview from them soon...my residency status still hasn't cleared though.

Good luck on interviews!! 👍

Does anyone know if the Univ. of Maryland has a deadline for when the secondary must be submitted by? I just added them to my AMCAS last week, and haven't received the email allowing me to access the secondary application... I looked online but I didn't see any sort of deadline listed... Also, does anyone know about how long it should take before I receive the email with the password for the secondary?

Thanks,
Emily

For UMD it took forever (I mean even longer than UCLA) to post my LORs, though they had them for over a month. I've been complete at that school for 2 months by now and have just received an interview. So just wait alittle and you'll get one (I'm out of ate so maybe that's why it was longer). Good Luck. :luck:

hey alll..

email from UMD on 10/13 inviting me for interview..YAY!!!! umm.. and i'm out of state...g*luck all. :luck:

Hey y'all,

"The deadline for the receipt of the Stage II application is December 1st. In situations where the Stage II application is sent to an applicant after the December 1st deadline the applicant will have two weeks to return the application to the School of Medicine."

Tinkerbelle,

Many of my classmates went abroad during our summer between MS I and MS II. There is an office of student research that organizes many such programs. It seems to me that most programs are based in central america with the aim to address healthcare disparities in such countries and costa rica and ecuador. some students also organized there own travel plans. there are ample opportunities in either event.

Medschool will be stressful wherever you go, graded or not. I think the hardest thing to deal with is that most students get B's and C's. It takes an expontential amount of work to honor a class, A Mt. Everest amount of effort for an A. It becomes a balancing act. For example, one of my classmates that was eligible for honors for every block last year went to every lecture and from noon till 10, they were in the library. Weekends too. After a few exams, most of us realize we aren't the smarty-pants we were as undergrads. The good part is that your peers and friends are going through the same... so it isn't as stressful as one would think. Kinda like misery loves company. Put it this way, a year and a half into it... I don't want to be anywhere else.

Most students live in close proximity to school (5 min by foot). Many students also live a short drive away (canton and federal hill). i lived two blocks from campus last year and i currently live about 10 mins by car, and I miss being able to walk out of my door and be at school in 5 min. The parking fees are terrrible. Currently, many students borrow others guest passes to park in ridgely's delight.

hope this helps.

Just received my invite. (Complete Oct. 8; invite Oct. 18)
Yay! My first one!
