Hey SDNers,

Just wondering if anyone can give me some extra info on the school. I understand that this varies with each class, I'm just looking to get an idea.

1. What's the class culture like? Is everyone helpful or do they keep to themselves?
2. How many people in your class are planning on specializing and of the ones that do have they been successful at matching after they've applied?
3. Is it easy to get in-state tuition after the first year, given that you've accomplish all the requirements?
4. Overall, how's it like living in Baltimore? Do students go out on the weekends?

Any extra information is greatly appreciated, I'm figuring out what to expect when I move there.

Thanks in advance!

1. Class culture is collaborative rather than competitive. You have 130 students in the class, really diverse, and friendly. We go to class together, go out together.
2. I'm a D1, so I'm not 100% sure about the matching thing, but from what I've heard from D4s, they are matching to the programs that they want. It takes a ~5 years for them to be completely comfortable in practice (not unique to Maryland)
3. I'm in state, but from what I've heard, it's challenging due to the requirements, but its somewhat attainable. It's a little harder than it has been in the past.
4. Baltimore is cool. With every city, you have to be careful with walking around at night etc etc. It depends on what your vibe is. If bars are your vibe then you'll definitely like going out to Fed Hill and Fells Point. Some of us drive to DC for more of the nightlife feel.

Thanks for the input!

Would you say a good portion of your class is looking to specialize?

Hi,

I’m not sure actually, but I know that I would like to do orthodontics. May or may not follow through with it, but you don’t really get exposed to the specialties until your various blocks/rotations 3rd year.
