University of Miami Alternate List

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
so i suppose no one has heard anything at all. this waiting game is really no fun at all. i dont know what else i can/should do at this point in the game. any suggestions???

well...i just called...i gave in and called...i always feel bad calling...im sure they get swamped with the same questions everyday...but anyways....she said the withdrawals and waitlist movement is "trickling" (as opposed to being "swamped with withdrawals")....and they anticipate more withdrawals after the deposit date is posted (anticipate -meaning, based on previous years...but she said it doesnt say alot for this year)...and the class is currently full.....and when i asked if i shoud look at plan B and if all my MIami hopes were dashed...she said...well maybe not until the endof the month....so BASICALLY a lot of vague answers, except for : the class is full.
thats all i got. sorry if its not helpful. haha. good luck everyone still waiting! :luck:

I feel the same way that you do. 🙁 I'm not giving up hope yet though. I have started to think about and work on "Plan B" which has not been a very fun thing to work on. I guess i'll start studying to take the MCAT again. I would much rather be working on starting anatomy stuff and everything, but I feel that at this point, the MCAT is my best option. 🙂 Trying to stay positive though.

just wanted to say that i think that was really cool... not many deans would join SDN to help us out!!

That's what is so great about being in Florida. The deans and the admissions directors care. REL at USF also started posting some time back and his continual help on these boards has also been greatly appreciated. Its nice to hear from the deans once in a while on here because it calms some of our fears with this process and gives straight up direct information. 👍 👍

so what is everybody doing with their time this summer as they wait on the alternate list? anybody doing anything really exciting? is it me or did i somehow miss the whole movement of the waitlist?

ok guys, I asked Dr.Hinkley through email if there was anything he wanted me to tell you guys or if there were any deadlines coming up. Here was his response:

Friday is the deadline for finalizing campus assignments. Withdrawals after that date will be filled by people from the alternate list and they will be offered a place at the campus that's not full. If both campuses are not full, I will offer them a choice. This has been a most unusual year in that we've had no one withdraw in nearly 2 weeks. Our sister public medical schools in Florida are seeing the same thing and from what I hear, this seems to be happening nationally, but no one seems to know why!

thats the latest guys... sorry if it wasn't the most encouraging news, hopefully the dam will burst and they'll get some more withdrawals soon.

thanks arsenic...even if it wasnt the most encouraging news, at this point it's just good to hear something. If you hear anything else let us know! Do they even expect people to withdrawl this coming friday or is it pretty much seem to be set in the way it is? just wondering. 😀

Good Luck Y'all

FYI: I'm probably declining acceptance next week, will make final decision this weekend, opens up a spot in theory. Would have loved to be in Miami, but love and in-state tuition too big of a draw for me. Best wishes to all!

I got the call on 7/14 🙂 Its late, but definately not over! Good luck!

Orientation starts today. I called last friday and they said they didn't expect much movement, but today would be the day...I'd love to get the call today, but don't have much hope left...good luck everyone.
