So, is it faux pas that I'm not going to U Mich. school of dentistry, but rather the college of pharmacy? Will I be flamed and taken to the gallows?

Oh, well. I still need help.

I'm looking to buy a house rather then renting. My girlfriend is moving with me with our dog, and we're tired of living in an apartment.

What areas around Ann Arbor are close enough for a comfortable commute? I've heard Yspsilanti is a sweet area and cheaper - any other suggestions from veterans?

Ypsi is not sweet... more like ghetto and cheaper

Congrats on pharm school admission. I have a classmate who lives in brighton, but it's quite the commute. You might look into buying a condo in ann arbor. All the houses are pretty expensive.

the area on the ann arbor ypsi line is not so bad. if you are looking for other towns that are close to ann arbor but may not carry the ann arbor prices dexter and saline are two relatively close ones. i would guess a 15-20 minute commute to class in the morning. i am not sure about property prices there, but i would think they arent as high as AA. neighborhoods north of ann arbor are also probably cheaper, sugarbush and the surrounding area is one (around plymouth and nixon roads).

Oh, and I forgot to add that if you go to arborweb.com, it might be helpful finding condos and/or apartments on your own.

Saline is a good 20 minute drive to the commuter lot near the Wolverine Tower on State St. Then another 10-15 minutes to bus in. I'm not so sure of the older homes in Saline-a ranch, 2 or 3 bdrms a bathroom, and a basement would be around 150k at least. If you want to live in a nicer/bigger, of course it's more money and those range from 200k-500k. Saline is not cheap to live in, but it is a nice quiet little town.

Maybe you can buy a townhouse near the school-say medical campus area.

Thanks everyone for their help. My friend who's a medical student at U.Mich is going to refer me to her realtor to look for a place that will suit us.
