For anyone who went to UM-TC for undergrad in biology...

It sounds like most of the biology classes are on the St. Paul campus. But then most of your other classes are on the east campus in downtown Minneapolis. Also most of the dorms.

Is that a hassle? Problems with scheduling classes? How long does it take to get between campuses?

Actually, a lot of the bio classes can be taken on the Minneapolis campus too (i.e. biochem, genetics, and cell bio are taught by different profs on different campuses). And the general bio sequence is taught on the main campus. I didn't have any classes in St. Paul my first two years, and only a small number last year. It's not really a hassle, there are buses going every five minutes between campuses, and the ride is only like 10 minutes. Plus, St. Paul classes are offset by half and hour to compensate for the travel - so classes start in Minneapolis at 8, but don't start in St. Paul until 8:30. And the St. Paul campus is so quiet and pretty, it's nice to be able to be over there every once in awhile 🙂

it wasn't a problem for me -going from one campus to the other. just make sure you have enough time between your classes- at least 20 minutes.

Yeah, I had only 2 of my bio classes in St. Paul (animal phys. lab and evolution lab/lecture). Timing was never an issue, especially since you can see where classes are going to be when you register.

i had genetics lab with you!

😛

That class was probably my favorite ever, seriously. Loved the Petes!

Now I'm curious, though, as to who you are! There were only about, umm, 15 of us...

I sent you a PM

The campus connector takes 10-15 mins to get from the east bank to st paul campus. I only had one class in st paul (biochem), but I was a finance/marketing major so most of my classes were on the west bank anyways. I thought they had many of the bio classes in the molec/cell bio building, but I could be wrong... Are you just about to start freshman year or have you already started school there?

just wondering,

What were your favorite/least favorite bio classes/professors at the U? I'm transferring down to the U from UMD next semester. I'll be a sophomore.

I loved genetics lab and developmental bio. Pharmacology was super easy.

I don't mind talking about professors in particular, but would prefer to keep that to PM. 🙂

Thanks for all the info - sounds like nada problema...

I have a year of high school left - just trying to decide which colleges to apply to for undergrad.

hey guys,

I'm currently at St.Kate's but will be transfering to the UofM- TC in Janurary. 😀

Well you've discovered a great pre-med website at an early stage in your education, so good luck with everything. Is biology your primary interest or are you doing it mainly because it fulfills the medical school prerequisites?
