I am a current 1st year there and have been extremely satisfied with it so far. I had a lot of misgivings about staying here given some of the press of the last 5-10 years. In the end, it came down to money, residency matches comparable to the other schools that had accepted me, and the inability of anyone in the admissions departments of any of the other schools to give me a good reason not to. In the end, I think a lot of what goes into rankings has very little impact on the quality of your education (although I recognize the value of a big name school when residency applications roll around). What I like most about MN is that our instruction has been borderline excellent. The students are fun, interesting and mostly not too anal. The administration seems to be friendly, approachable, and honest. There are more shadowing, mentoring, volunteer, service, and research opportunities than you would ever have time for, and, frankly, I think the reputation is pretty good.
