Hmm...my message didn't post. Let me try again. 🙂

Hello Nevadans,
Has anyone received anything from University of Nevada yet? For those of you that applied last year to this school, can you approximate how long it took you to receive their secondary (or rejection pre-secondary)?

Thank you!

Nevada was one of the last secondaries I got. I probably got it in September sometime (after submitting AMCAS in June). But the good news is that they automatically interview everybody who gets a secondary, and send the interview invitation with the application.

I called the admissions office last week, and they said that they will be sending secondaries out in mid-September. We have a while yet. 🙂

Lari, is University of Nevada your first choice? Rapid Decomposition, what was your impression of the school, and did you eventually attend there?

I actually interviewed here in Vegas (if you are instate they give you a choice of Reno or Vegas, out of state has to interview in Reno) so I really can't tell you anything at all about the Reno campus (except that I don't like Reno...haha). The interviewers left a positive impression on me though.

The Las Vegas "campus" (not really a campus, just a collection of medical buildings on W. Charleston) is ok - kind of old, but to be honest I didn't really have a look around. I won't be going to UNSOM next year, but Carbon will. I'm not sure if she will check this thread - you might PM her and ask her impressions, because she interviewed in Reno.

I think UNSOM is a great choice for instate residents, especially if you are planning on staying in Nevada to practice. The class size is very small, so there is a lot of room for individual attention/freedom, and the tuition is one of the lowest of any U.S. school - definitely a bargain! But I decided I wanted to take a more ambitious (though expensive...<sigh>) route through school, and I personally didn't care for the location in Reno and the more traditional curric. of the school. But that's just my preference.

Thank you Rapid Decomposition and dara678 for that information. I will stop being so impatient now. 😉 At least I have other secondaries to work on in the meantime--quite a pile, actually. They came in all at once! 😱

dara678,
I see that you're a Hello Kitty fan! I am too--been collecting since I was like five. 🙂

UNR is my first choice because it's the cheapest option for me, I'm familiar with the area (grew up in Minden) and I prefer to be closer to family. I also like how small the class is, so you can better attention. And (like Rapid Decomposition suggests) I would like to practice in Nevada.

Since I've completed all my secondaries except one, I called UNR. They told me that my secondary is "on the way." FINALLY!

Can anyone tell me what their secondary is like from last year? Long/short? Essay? And from what I understand they include the interview invitation with it. Do you need to complete the secondary and mail it in order to reserve your interview slot? Or do you phone and say I want this date and send in your secondary materials later? The reason why I'm asking all these questions is because I'll be in Chicago for a week and my loyal bf will have to FedEx stuff to me. I just want to be prepared in case I don't receive the secondary before I leave.

Thanks!

I actually don't remember much about the Nevada secondary, but I think there were a couple short essays on the application. I think I reused answers from other secondaries. There is extra paperwork, though, like a residency application sheet (to prove you are a Nevada resident). But I don't think you have to have all that in to schedule the interview - as long as everything is in by their deadline (I think in January sometime) you are good.
