My family and I just moved to North Carolina. (just left the military)

I finished my bachelor degree a couple months ago, but due to our military location I could not take my physics/chemistry face to face so I had to wait till we moved. I am outside of Winston Salem currently and deciding between two schools to finish my prereqs. NOTE: I am not doing a formal program

I did some searching on here and I don't see any previous forum posts about this specifically so I wanted to ask. Have any of you had experiences with either one of these schools prereq wise and if so, which would you suggest? I know that University of North Carolina is a bigger school and a bit more recognized, but it is also a 30-40 minute drive for me and more expensive. Ultimately I will go to that school if it is really worth it, but since I am a nontrad with a family and a job my time is valuable and saving money on gas is a big reality for me.

I have no experience with either school, but I'll leave my two cents since no responded. IMO, and assuming both are four-year schools (I know that UNC is), I would go with the cheaper, closer option and just kill those classes. You'll save money and it'll probably be less stressful.

I am not sure if you have already chosen a school but I will share what I know as I graduated from UNC. UNC is a very competitive ( public ivy league) and large school, which is not the best setting for some people especially with regards to class sizes and interaction with professors. For example, the introduction classes ( including bio and chem) have anywhere from 300 to 400 students so it makes it difficult to ask questions in class for some people. With that said, professors have office hours and TAs for questions. Eseentially, you just have to decide what learning environment is conducive for you. Personally, I went in as a pre-med and later changed most for the above reasons. Basically, after a year or so there I realized that a smaller school ( ie Davidson College) was best for me so I comtemplated transferring but I never did ( bad decision). I now live in a different state and taking pre-med classes at a much smaller school and doing much better. Don't get me wrong UNC is an excellent school as many people in and out of state dream of going there but it isn't for everyone. On the contrary, I know of lots of pre-health people I went to school who either went to UNC for medical, dental, pharm, etc or another school after undergrad. Just my two cents but as I stated before you have to do what is best for you because I think that sometimes it is not all about the name of the school you attend but how you do.
