What do you think of the new signature? I think the rest of my class is in various stages of drunkenness at the Skirvin right now.

The numbers don't add up right because people are matched to prelim without the advanced program in some cases, and only some programs are categorical vs. requiring a separate internship. There were a handful of people you can tell had to scramble and/or didn't get what they wanted, but overall I'd call it very successful. I pretty amazed to see how many we got into anesthesia and psychiatry, especially psychiatry.
Change that to 20 anesthesiology - one of the guys that scrambled into Family Med ended up getting an anesthesia spot in Wichita
I can't believe so few did Rads. In my class that, and gas were the two top slots both coming in around just under 20 or so each.
I don't know you in the real world Antigunner, but my best friend from high school will be in your residency class. He's older like me (graduated high school in 1997), and he went to the other medical school in OK, but don't hold that against him. 😛
Hey amx, didnt see you at the skirvin on thurs. Hope all is well. Are you psyched about WVU?
3 of our 8 coming to Scott and White are from OU!
BOOMER!
👍
Yeah, seems like Scott and White and UAB anesthesia programs are "second homes" to lots of OU med grads, which is pretty neat.
Of course, I'd rather they all stay here but oh well. 🙂
For all you 3rd years, don't rule out anesthesia. It is seriously the best field in medicine. So many people try to switch into anesthesia after realizing they made a mistake. Why not just make the right decision the first time? 🙂

Amx, Congrats to you and the rest of your class. You have chosen wisely.
OUdoc, it's been a while. How are things at S+W?
Sup sharp!
S&W is nice, Temple's a great place. How's things for you?
Going well. However, I can't wait to get this intern thing over with and get started with Rads. Next month....ICU. The month after....Nephrology wards. Makes me want to vomit.
I'm glad you like it down in Temple. We just got back from Rochester where we were looking for a house. I'm fairly certain that I'm really going to like it up there.
How is your intern year structured? Mostly Medicine/OB?
Reason #23 why I hate peds. We got an email today saying we didn't have to go to their academics on Wed because they would be picking out their schedules for next year. So instead of telling us we could go home, which would make sense considering no residents will be there, the email said we should hang out in the wards during that time period. So we should sit in the wards for absolutely zero reason because it would just be wrong to give us a free afternoon.
3 more days, and I'm out.

There's a bright shiny brilliance at the end of the 3rd year tunnel. 4th year is freakin' awesome. You'll love it.
For instance... I'm only awake at this hour because I got bored yesterday and went to bed at 8:30. Today my plan is to format the hard drive and install Vista, go to the library and pick up some recreational books to read, and later this afternoon I'm going to sand and varnish some water damaged window sills to get our house ready to sell.
I cannot wait! 8 weeks of vacation + several weeks of flex classes and other easy rotations. It'll be beautiful.
Congrats for making it through peds, Bagel. At least in surgery you don't have to listen to the patient's as often...
<----- leaves for Florida and 85 degree weather for the next 3 days in 2 hours 😀
Speaking of that, does OSU treat their students like crap? I can't ask on one of their threads because that would start a flame war, but I'm curious. All the nasty peds people here are OSU grads -- actually almost everyone in the department here is an OSU grad. Is there a connection, or do just the overly uptight/mean people flock to our program?
Actually, the OSU peds dept is extremely nice and I've not heard complaints from students about the residents being crappy.
Not sure why the OU program attracts people like you describe. Your thought may very well be right-on.
People don't practice rural primary care for lots of good reasons, and I don't think doing a one month rotation will change their minds any.
You know, I think it's ridiculous that we have to do this rural thing anyway. The majority of Oklahomans don't live in rural areas anymore, and I doubt north Tulsa is any less underserved than Weatherford. I guess it's just a thing to make the legislature happy. People don't practice rural primary care for lots of good reasons, and I don't think doing a one month rotation will change their minds any.
So I get to pick my schedule tomorrow (I go third). I'm thinking of starting out Med then Surg to get the big ones out of the way. Any thoughts about whether this is insane from those who've been there and done that?
I did it and don't regret it. You'll hate life by the time the first week of September rolls around, but when October comes you know life is good... until Ob/gyn gets to you. 😉

Yeah, I'm hoping to have OB right after Christmas break when I've had a couple weeks off and am fresh again.
