Sorry that we won't get to be classmates, dbhvt, but best of luck to you at Columbia. I'm glad you got in. 🙂

Thanks, Q. You should drop by Washington Heights if you're ever in NY.

Does anybody know if they still have spots in the class? I called a few days ago and they told me my application was going to the committee today...but I interviewed back in mid-February. I guess my interviewers just took a long time filling out the forms from my interviews--the doctor I interviewed with was unbelievably busy (her pager went off and/or phone rang about 10 times during our 45 min interview that she was an hour late for...I didn't have a problem with this, but WOW she was in high demand!), so it's not hard to imagine this delay. I just really hope their class isn't full because I am sick of waitlists--oh, and also I would definitely consider attending--but mostly I am just sick of waitlists 😉 .

Q, where else are you considering?

bump for a bright and sunny day in pittsburgh for once

no jacket today!

Has anyone called and asked when they expect the list to start moving? If not, someone other than me can volunteer!

Sorry guys-- was there ever a verdict on whether the waitlist moves before may 15? Like before next weekend maybe??

caveman, are you debating Pitt vs. Miami? That's my dilemma...

Yep. I'm sorry you have the same annoying decision. Where are you in your thinking?

why can't you just remain on the waitlist at pitt and proceed with matriculation at miami? am i missing something here???? that's what i'm doing with my state school.

😕

Of course I can do that - But I still want to make the decision in my own mind which school I prefer, becuase if I get pulled off Pitt's waitlist after May 15, I won't exactly have much time to decide. I want to try and decide ahead of time so I know what to do if I get pulled off.

i've decided to wait until mid-June, about 2 wks before I absolutely have to find an apt and sign a new lease.

Sounds reasonable. I'm going to wait until early-July, since I'll be out of the country until then. Mid-July is when I plan to find an apartment....somewhere!

FYI everyone, I asked Pitt when the waitlist would start moving. I was told "it will not move until after May 15."

thanks for finding out! 👍 👍 👍

Hi ________ ,

Sometimes we do go to the waitlist before May 15, but I don’t see that happening this year. You can stay on many waitlists w/ no commitment. After May 15, if you’re holding a seat and get an offer from a place where you’re waitlisted, you have to choose between the two. That process can happen again and again until you finally matriculate.

It’s like learning the rules to Deal or No Deal, isn’t it? 🙂

Hope that re-affirms the wait-list movement consensus as of now. Keep your belt buckles fastened y'all. This here pony ain't budgin for a month or so. Keep your sombreros tilted for now! 😎

Best of Luck to all of you, esp those of us who are waiting to hear back from other schools too, or are waiting for Pitt to get back to us because they just rock our boat like Bob Marley.

I think it's pretty clear. If they tell you "your rank on this list is high and it is my expectation that your application will meet with eventual success" then you're on the high waitlist, and according to last year's cycle, you'll probably get in. However, if it says "I hope you'll meet eventual success" you're on the regular list. Kind of ridiculous how one word (hope vs. expect) can make such a difference.

As of Friday, I am in the Expect Club. Does anyone know if waitlisters can fill out financial aid forms, or do we just wait? Because if I get in, $ will make the decision for me.

🙁 Wait-Listers definitely do not fill out any Financial Aid Forms.

I can tell you that from personal experience, and from simple logic - think of how much work a Financial Aid Office at a particular med-school has to do during application season as May 15th approaches. Why in the world would they add on extra work that is unwarranted at that point?

We've got waiting to do my friend ... unnerving, I know, but do it we must!

I would however, recommend you have all your FinAid forms like FAFSA, etc, all filled out and ready to go, should you get good news. For example, Pitt also places their Fin. Aid applications online, so you can DL them and fill em out if you want.

Thanks. I didn't think they were going to process them, I just thought they might be like Yale for example where you can hand them in before you know if you are accepted or not.

I designated Pitt as one of the schools on my FAFSA. Doesn't that count for something? For instance, if you're accepted off the waitlist, then they can begin processing that aspect of it, while waiting for you to fill out their institutional aid forms.

That's how I understand it.

And good luck to all of us :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: !

Good Luck to all. I recently dropped my acceptance. Hopefully you guys get in!

Thanks ti89, I hope I get in too.

Good luck to everyone! :luck: :luck: It seems like a lot of people are dropping Pitt acceptances close to the deadline. Not that it's a representative sample, but I think Pitt has the most entries in the "Withdrew Acceptance" thread (jeez, I really am obsessive). Here's hoping those empty seats go to us! 😀

No waitlist word yet from Pitt? :luck: :luck: :luck:

withdrew last week--good luck, everyone!!! :luck: :luck: :luck:

It sounds like Pitt didn't take anyone today.

I called the admissions office today - the waitlist likely wont move for several days.

Thanks for the heads up. You just saved me a lot of grief.

No one taken off yet!!! Are you kidding me?? Last years acceptance starts on May 12th 😡

Apparently they over-accepted this year. So fewer people will be getting off the waitlist compared to years past 🙁

Ditto the last comment, I emailed the dean of admissions to ask about my status - she's not expecting many people to get off the list, and furthermore there probably won't be much movement till the end of the month.

This really sucks. I got an email back from the dean and her words are "We are not taking anyone off the waitlist. We'll keep you in mind."

*sob*

WTF

Hey guys, I just withdrew so there is another spot open for one of you. I wanted to go to Pitt; however, my state school is much cheaper. Good luck!

Thanks Nick. Best of luck at med school.

Is there anyone else who has recently withdrawn, possibly for a personally-higher-ranked waitlist acceptance?

For whoever said that the Dean said "we are not taking anyone off the list. we'll keep you in mind." ... did she mean that absolutely NO one will come off the wait-list?

That sounds rather absurd to me. I would, for now, interpret that as meaning, until more spots open, they won't be taking anyone off, JUST YET. In other words, still waiting for the bigger wave of drops to come around.

That's how I would see that. I don't see how they would not take anyone off the wait-list AT ALL. That's just weird. Why have a wait-list at all if you're going to do that, you know? 👎

Have hope, ye wait-listees. The road is long, the doorway narrow. :luck:

first time post! i emailed dr. piraino with an update and she said, "we will certainly keep you in mind regarding the wait list." so i think they will be taking people off the list, but as others have said they over-accepted this year so it might not be for a while.

When I called the Admissions office on Friday, the person on the line said that the waitlist likely won't move for a few weeks 😱 So put your seatbelts on, ladies and gents, we're in for a long a bumpy ride! 😎
