Hello! Has anyone applied to the OT program at the U. of Pittsburgh and heard back yet? I applied and was verified in early November, but haven't heard back yet....I know it's rolling admission, so i'm not sure what their timeline is for sending out acceptances.

Hi, I received an e-mail last Friday, the 21st, which told me I was accepted to U Pitt. Earlier that week, on Monday, I got an e-mail from them telling me my application was under review. I submitted my app via OTCAS in November and it was verified on December 3rd. Good luck to you!! 🙂

Hi 133909, if you don't mind posting your stats for us? I'm also hoping to get into University of Pittsburgh!

Sure!
I have my Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration.

Overall GPA: 3.51
Pre-Req GPA: 4.0
GRE: 150 Verbal, 147 Quantitative, 4.0 writing

Extra-Curric: 420 hours as a teacher's assistant in an autism classroom, 66 OT observation hours in four different settings, 150 hours at a physical therapy internship, co-captain of softball team, captain for running team

Volunteer: I volunteer at my local stray dog shelter and at the Children's Hospital

Did you apply to other places, or U Pitt only? What are your stats? Again, best of luck to you!! It's a very stressful process of applying and waiting, that's for sure!

Hello!

I just got accepted into University of Pitt, and I'm wondering what the school is like. How is the area? How is the program? How's the faculty? And student life? Weather?? I'm from California and I've never been to Pennsylvania haha. I would love to hear some feedback on what the OT program at University of Pitt is like.

Hey love can you share your stats? and when did you submit your app?

Major: Psych Cognitive Science
Undergrad GPA: 3.346
Pre-req GPA: 3.8
GRE: Quant 156, Verbal 152, Writing 4

Observation Hours: Inpatient, Outpatient, Hand, Neuro = 100 hours
Work: Occupational Therapy Aide at an OT Hand Clinic

I submitted my app at the end of Oct. and had it verified by beginning of November. Is anyone familiar with the program at Univ of Pitt?

I, too, was accepted to Pittsburgh's program but I don't know much about it either.. I do know it is ranked in the Top 10 OT programs though. But I am definitely wanting to hear insight from current students or people who live in that area. Have you decided if you are going to attend? Congrats, by the way! Hopefully someone responds to your post soon in regards to more information about the program!

Congrats to you as well! 🙂 I'm still deciding and currently trying to research more about the program and the area. I have never been to Pennsylvania, and I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the possibility of living on the east coast. Quite a big move for someone born and raised in CA! Haha

University of Pittsburgh is in a very urban part of the city. When people see pictures of Pittsburgh they see bridges and Point State Park and a beautiful skyline. Heads up: U of Pitt is in Oakland, not the typical "pretty" part of Pittsburgh you would think if you've never been there. As in any city there are bad parts of town. Not saying its in a rough part but its not great by any means. Despite the downfall on location, Pitt is a VERY highly regarded health professions school. It is in conjunction with UPMC (U of Pitt Medical Center) which is world renound for providing the best in healthcare. Hope this helps a little!

Oh one other thing...we currently have 5 inches of snow and its 23 degrees out...hopefully you Californians are ready for some colder weather 🙂

Thank you so much!! That is very helpful! 🙂 Oh man.. 23 degrees. The winter time here gets around to maybe 50ish degrees, and I think that's cold! Well if I do go, I'll plan on bringing lots of layers and warm clothing. Thanks again for your feedback it is much appreciated 🙂

Just received my acceptance email today!! I also would love to know more about the program and what it is like! My mother graduated there for PT but that was over 30 years ago! I'm also from FL, so if I will most certainly freeze!!

My stats: FSU Psych Major with a minor in Child Development
Overall GPA 3.49
Pre-req 3.9
Verbal: 153, Quant: 150
Total Observation Hours: 130 in all areas besides Nursing Home
And then I had two years of Research in the Psych Field, plus the other clubs and things I've been involved with, like a team leader for Younglife!

BUT SO DANG EXCITED!! and for everyone still waiting to hear back, don't stress (I know that's really hard)!!

I submitted early October, and it got verified in November. At the end of November Pitt sent me an email telling me my app was under review and I'd hear back in January.

Hrrm, I just found out that University of Pitt doesn't do white coat ceremonies for their OT students. Anyone know why?

Congrats!! I went to Pitt for undergrad and it's a wonderful place! Very cool city with great history, food, music, art, etc! The weather isn't the best but as long as you dress for it, it's no big deal. Be warned that there are a LOT of hills, so having a car makes things much easier.

Those of you who got accepted to Pitt in the last cycle (congrats btw), how long did they give you to respond about whether or not you wanted to enroll? Since it's rolling admission, I'm worried about hearing back from them and being forced to respond before knowing about acceptances or rejections from other schools that are higher on my list. (Of course, I'd still be over the moon to get accepted here! Just wondering about timing.)

I think it was about a month or so.. They don't require a HUGE deposit though, I think 200 or 250 where other schools I've seen them as high as 700, so if you got accepted and took the offer but then decided on another school, you wouldn't be out TOO much money..

Anyone heard anything from UPitt yet??

I was hoping we would hear back soon. Nov 12th I was emailed about my application being under review. Hopefully we hear this month!

Anyone heard anything from UPitt yet??
Just got an acceptance email a couple minutes ago! I will most likely not be attending, though.
My OTCAS was verified July 31.

why?? where do you want to go?
MUSC is higher on my list and I already accepted there because of the deadline for responding. If I get into Thomas Jefferson or VCU, though, I'll have to do some deep thinking. (Pitt is a fantastic school but honestly I'm deterred by what I've heard about the winters... I'm from CA and don't handle the cold well haha.)

rcludo - Congrats on Pitt, (even if you don't think you'll go there) How long did they give you to respond, for those of us still hanging?

Thanks! They gave me until Jan. 3 to send in a $250 deposit. It will probably be different for everyone because they're on rolling admissions and will probably be sending out acceptances for a while, but it might be standard that people have just over 3 weeks. GOOD LUCK to everyone waiting!!

Hi guys! So I just received an email from Pitt saying that my app was under review and I could expect to hear back in late February, but it could possibly be sooner. I was verified in early September, but I didn't have physiology complete, so it slowed the process down for me big time. Did anyone else get this email?

Well it was definitely sooner than February, I got my acceptance email today! 🙂

Thanks! So it was a little tricky with Pitt because I didn't have physiology complete yet and they said they weren't reviewing my app until then even though I submitted in Sept. I emailed in my mid semester grade about 3 weeks ago and they said they could do an initial review that way and that I could send my final grades right when I received them instead of waiting for academic update in OTCAS. However, yesterday I got the official "your app is currently under review" email, even though I didn't submit my final grades yet. It also said decisions would be out late Feb, but I received the acceptance email today. Very surprising after I thought I'd be waiting until February. I have to let them know a decision by Jan 8th, so I think 3 weeks is the standard. Keep your eyes out for an email! I hope you hear back soon. 🙂
