Who else is on it? Anyone have any info about its size and movement?

I got the email today. I really liked Rochester, grew up in the area, and thought that it would be a great choice for me. I guess they disagreed.
 
I'm strongly considering attending Rochester in the fall. I know that when I interviewed (way back in Sept), they said many students in their class come from the waitlist, but that they also have to waitlist a lot of applicants because their class size is small. This makes me think that the waitlist is a fairly big group, but that if you really want to go there it helps to show how strong your interest is. I suggest writing a letter or talking to Dr. Hansen or Pat Samuelson.

Thanks, I'll be writing a letter. Good thing I saved an update for them...
 
Yep I got the e-mail today too. So is the consensus that this list doesn't move much? I absolutely loved my visit there and thought I had a great interview. I also told my interviewer both during the interview and in a thank you letter that Rochester was my top choice. I suppose I will try sending a letter to Dr. Hansen and informing him of the same thing, but if anyone can give any feedback on movement of this list, that would be great... Thanks y'all.

i was waitlisted ages ago, interviewed early in the fall, totally have a crush on that school, but no word yet
 
interviewed in December, waitlisted in January

I liked it a lot as well
it's def my top choice

hopefully we get in!
 
Just recieved an email stating that I was waitlisted. Hopefully there will be some movement because I really liked Rochester. I think it is such a great institution.
 
I'm on the Rochester waitlist, but I'm going to withdraw - liked the school, but can't do the location for 4 years.
So hopefully that gives more of a chance to all of you - good luck!

how long after interviews did other people hear about the waitlist?

i'm going on 10 weeks post-interview, no decision....

I interviewed 2/15, got a waitlist email on 3/28. I'd give them a call to check on it...they should be getting people some kind of decision before 5/15, right?

Anyone hear back since being put on the WL?

well i called....no news....i have to wait until the director of admissions returns NEXT week....can't be good....

I was put on the waitlist back in Nov. (interviewed in Oct.) but I've withdrawn my application to make room for you guys. 😀

I was talking to a 1st year at my interview and he said he interviewed really late, was waitlisted in May, and got off the waitlist 2 days later. Don't know if that helps.

i emailed dean hansen....his e-mail reply was VERY nice!!!! was put in the upper ech waitlist....more waiting 🙂 good luck everyone!!!!!

Hmm, what does this mean, "upper" waitlist? Did anyone else's specify? Mine just said "waiting list", which doesn't sound quite as good 🙄

i received 2 e-mails from dr. hansen....the one saying the committee completed a final review of my application + Wait List info....then a second e-mail stating that i was in the top echelon of the Wait List group.

maybe e-mail the school for placement?

yeah, I think Dr. Hansen is the person to email to find out more about your status on the WL. I think he mentioned this on our interview date.
 
I interviewed on the first day of interviews in August and have been wait listed for a long long long time. Dr. Hansen explained to me in person in February that their wait list is not ranked and that they would look at the demographics of the class to get the best fit.
 
Yeah, I just called to check and make sure they got my letter, and the woman I spoke with told me that the WL was not ranked and to just keeping waiting 🙄

Maybe that's good news for you, barcelona. You're on the upper part that they don't tell anyone about.

Good luck to you all! Dr Hansen said that this is the first day they're taking off the waitlist, but also said their class "has held rather well" (take that as you will) this year and I take it that means there isn't going to be a lot of openings.

congrats!! And best of luck to the rest of you waiting. I don't think they over-accept by a lot so even if the class is holding strong, I think there will still be a fair amount of movement (I really want you guys to get in!)

Got a call from Dr. Hansen this morning and I'm in!

It sounds like it's on a spot-by-spot basis at this point. He told me a spot had opened and I was next on the list. I have 2 weeks to decide.

Thanks, kbear 🙂 If UCSF is my dream dream school, Rochester is my (now) realistic dream school. Very excited about this one!

what really worried me was when Hansen wrote back to me after I submitted a letter of intent that "class is holding well" and they don't foresee "drawing very deeply" from the wait list.

I don't know if he said this to everyone or just me, but that suggests that i am not realistically going to get accepted off the list.

any thoughts?
 
I was on the WL but U of R officially rejected me a few days ago...

No, I got that same note about the class "holding well" and there being very little waitlist movement... and I got accepted within a week. Hold tight, miracles DO happen! :luck:

I agree that there must be some kind of informal ranking. After my letter a few weeks ago, Dr. Hansen's reply said the class was "holding well" like in the reply you got, but he also said he would "keep an eye on" my app and "note [my] continued interest." He then said hopefully some spots will open up "so that we can offer you an acceptance" but obviously there's still no guarantee. So maybe I still have a hope... but you're right, they probably are looking primarily at demographics at this point.

Congrats! That is great 🙂 Can I ask where you were on the waiting list? I'm currently on the list too and had pretty much lost all hope, but this is kinda making me hopeful again 🙂

Thanks for the congrats guys! I don't know at all where I was on the waitlist, but the person who called me said that one more open spot had just opened this week and that I was next on the list.

Where did all of you stay when you interviewed? I will be traveling to Rochester for a single night in August. My interview invite came with some suggested hotels, but it would be fantastic to get the opinion of someone who has seen the city and school so that I can make a convenient choice.

P.S. Did anyone stay with a student host? How did you arrange for this?
