Hey,

Does anybody know if UT has pretty decent waitlist movement, and whether or not they rank you on the waitlist? Also is there anything you can do (ie LOI) to improve your chance of getting pulled of the waitlist?

Thanks for the help

I'd imagine that they have decent waitlist movement- it's not a ridiculously large school, but it's got a decent sized incoming class. Typically schools look favorably upon LOIs from what I've heard, so it's probably worth a shot.

^^Yes, they do have movement on the ranked wait list. They typically rank people into high, middle, and low priority. And they claim that they usually get through all of the high priority group and about half of the middle priority group. I believe the letter that informs you that you're on wait might tell you your priority.

And, yes, the LOI is a good idea. They're very proud of their school and are interested in people who share their enthusiasm for the program.

Good luck. It's an excellent school.

Thanks for the advice,

When I first applied to the school I was kind of skeptical, but after going there I was really impressed with the school, and wonder why it is not talked about more.

I've heard that the out of state list gets some movement, but how much movement has there been on the in state waitlist within the past few years?

This is the decisions thread from last year, might help a little:

I know the OOS list moved faster last year, can't say much about how the IS list moved, but I would still expect a fair bit of movement with all the schools in OH.

That thread was reassuring to read. Especially the parts about OOS waitlist movement being so great. They kept warning us at the interview that last year's waitlist movement was minimal compared to previous years. I interviewed a couple of weeks ago and sent off a LOInterest this week. I would love to get a direct acceptance, but I know a waitlist is a good possibility.

Does anyone know if we can call them and find out our rank on the waitlist?

I already called to find out where i am on the waitlist, and they told me they moved the meeting back until the end of May at which time they will rank us, and then send out letters telling us where we sit. So If you want to call on June 1st before the letter comes they will tell you, but until then i guess we are not even officially ranked.

Same thing happened last year.

i just withdrew. i am out of state. i hope this spot goes to someone excited about the school. i really liked the school - everyone was friendly, nice, and enthusiastic plus the price is right after the first year. toledo seemed a bit small but i'd be in school most of the time anyway. i simply decided to go somewhere else.

good luck to all!

Just to add to your hope, I too just withdrew from Toledo a few days ago so another OOS spot is up for grabs...although i decided to go elsewhere, I truly feel that Toledo is a great school that is just getting better...good luck to anyone waiting for a spot...I hope you get mine!!!

IF I want to write a LOI to Toledo who should I address it to. The Admissions Committee, or someone in particular, Anybody?

I called on May 16th and Kelly (or Sandy) said they had prioritized the waitlist and plan to send out the letters soon. I don't know what "soon" means but the waitlist seems to be prioritized.

that is all.

Was she willing to tell you your rank?

Thats interesting because I called today and I spoke with a lady who said the list won't be finalized until the middle of next week and from then they'll send out letters. Basically the waiting continues....

yeah the priorities thing is really what they do. If you tell me your GPA and MCAT scores, I can ask two of my friends who were also waitlisted but are now admitted what your chances are. private message if you want.

Do you think it would be inappropriate to just email him?
I sent e-mails via the admissions office e-mail. I'll let you decide what to do if you find his e-mail.

I wouldn't count on this being an effective qualifier. They go off a lot more than just GPA/MCAT... Once they tell you which waitlist third you're in you'll have a good grasp on what your chances are.

Hey guys,

I'm on the waitlist right now. I'm debating whether or not to start up my applications for next cycle because i don't know what my chances really are. I sent a huge 4-page diatribe of an LOI about my interest in the school, what I can offer and what I hope to achieve through the school last week,

Also, i just found out that the fax number that they have on the card is an old number, so don't send your LOI's to that fax machine. I think the new number is 419-383-3322.

I'm worried because I sent the LOI last week, but they didn't get it. I hope that doesn't mess up my chances.

Being a Cali pre-med sucks hard.

Oh and i called and they said the list should be prioritized by next Wednesday. This just be draggin' out.

FYI: 4 pages is way, way too much. Get it down to 1 page.

2 is ok just because formal business letters have so much filler at the top that the actual substance is next to nothing on a single page. 3+ however is a bit excessive, yes.

@the 4 page person. Don't sweat it. What is done is done. At least they got it and who knows maybe they will enjoy it. 👍

The longer you make the letter the greater the chance is that they won't read it. Ever notice how LizzyM continually stresses the importance of brevity? You can write a great LOI in 1 page. So, why risk it? The OP said that they didn't get his FAX. So, this could be his/her chance to condense his/her thoughts into a very tight composition. If the 4 page beast has already been received, it's probably not going to hurt. But a shorter, punchier LOI is more likely to get their attention in a good way.

So does anybody know of anyone that has been taken off the waitlist yet? I know that it has not yet been ranked, but I was wondering if they were taking people anyway.

So the wait list should be finalized tomorrow. Is anybody else nervous to find out where on the wait list they are?

AHHHHHH!!!!!

I got in! Email around 3:30 from Sandy in admissions. I'm so psyched right now!!!

Congrats Runshare!

For everyone else, I got a reply saying they will finish ranking the list tomorrow.

Here's hoping we all get emails!

I was just notified that I am in the middle of the applicant list. Is there any way I can improve my chances from here?

Congrats to all the others who have been admitted, good luck!

Waitlisters, i think the list was finalized as I got an email. I am not exactly happy with the placement. 🙁

(middle priority)

I got placed on the high priority section...I wonder when they start to pick people off the list

Send a brief, well-composed letter of intent and continually check back with the admissions office every few weeks.

I'm just wondering if any of you guys in the same position as me are restarting your AMCAS.

They told me to wait a month and see where I am. In a month, I will be behind every one else on the AMCAS app, so I'm just wondering what everyone else is doing.

Who told you to wait a month? Toledo?

Definitely restart unless you have an acceptance in hand. Alway cover all your bases. Most of the biographical/coursework info should already be filled in from last year. Go ahead and send your transcripts in. Have a tentative PS ready also.

Sometimes people submit their AMCAS with just one school and then if nothing works out they add other schools to the list.

As a former reapplicant, my take:

If you're on the waitlist, go ahead and get all your ducks in a row to reapply. You don't have to submit just yet but you should definitely start polishing your personal statement and getting your transcripts ordered, LORs together, etc.

Have everything ready to submit and set a drop dead date when you'll invest the money.

Another tip. You can get your AMCAS processed by submitting it with just 1 school designated. You apply, designate 1 school and AMCAS will proceed to verify your coursework and do all that stuff that takes the weeks to go through. This will cost you $160 instead of the hundreds for multiple schools. Then if it starts to get late in the summer and it isn't looking so good, you can designate additional schools once your AMCAS is processed. They'll all get your application about the same time, but you've bought yourself a few extra weeks of processing time to see if the waitlist works out.

Good luck everyone.:luck:

I'm in the low-priority section but at Cincy I'm in the High. Go figure. Sadly that counts Toledo out for me. Good luck, everyone. I hope you all hear good news.

Hey Depakote, how do they usually notify people of an acceptance off the waitlist? Phone call, email or both? Thanks!

Yeah, well Cincy has me in the middle group, but Toledo just took me before assigning me to a group. So go figure. Admissions process = jacked.

Good luck, BTW, with UC. It's a great school and the new school building looks super nice. UC is supposedly aggressively pulling women of their alternate list right now. So, I think your chances there are quite good.
