I had a hard time deciding to go into private practice or go into a residency
...... you know those people in your class... that NEED a residency, yup I am sure there are a few in every class. I felt along with my professors that I would be fine if I didn't complete one, but I wanted to gain a more diverse knowledge of the dental field. I did over 200 EXT's, 40 Units of crown and bridge, over 100 restorative cases, 7 complete set of dentures, 5, RPD's, 6 molar endo, 6 anterior endo, in dental school... lets just say I was proactive. I felt like I was plenty competent, maybe not fast, but competent. I have placed (6 months into it) 4 implants, and will place 6 implants this month, I have Extracted teeth on pts who have an high INR, and heavily medicated, treated down syndrome, and MR pts. I have restored implants, 5-6 molar endo, 10 crowns, when I am not busy with pts...yes there are those times 😀, I am able to pick attendings brains about practices, look for practices, and find the right fit for me. It costed me about 70,000 to attend this residency this is the lack of salary coming out 50,000-120,000 = 70,000, but you would pay a lot of this back for a competent implant course or 250 hours of CE you obtain from this residency. There are horrible residencies out there, but the UofU is a great one to apply and attend. Dr. Olson is hilarious. Its an easy interview, an he most of all wants residents who don't rock the boat.😳...so to speak. Good luck!
