Hey guys, since no one started a thread for this cycle yet, I thought I would make one for all UW applicants. UW DPT admission sent out an email in mid-Jan notifying us that they would email us the status notification in mid-Feb. Have any of you gotten any updates yet?

Also, if you do not mind, please share your stats and where you have planned to attend!

Accepted: UNLV
Waitlisted: Univ of Puget Sound
Undergrad: UNLV
cGPA: 3.77
pGPA: 3.95
Hours: ~125 hours at various therapy settings

Waiting to hear back from UW and Chapman! I declined my interview offer at USA-San Marcos.

Last year cycle applicants were notified on Jan 31. I’m anxiously waiting as well, as mid-Feb (14th) is approaching soon.

I dont know what to expect since being an out of state student from Pennsylvania...

Good luck to you all! I am currently a 1st year DPT student at UW. You guys should be hearing back very soon... so hang in there! 🙂
If you guys have any specific questions about the program, please let me know as well.
What do you like the most about the program? And what not so much?

One of my favorite parts of this program is that we have a great student to faculty ratio. Our cohort size is 48 and we have a lot of faculty involved in each class. For example, our class will have a lead instructor and in that same class we will have about 3-4 TAs. When we break out in groups, we get a lot of one on one time with professors and it is incredibly helpful. In addition, every professor is willing to meet one on one. If you are struggling in class, they will put in every effort to figure out a way on how to help you succeed.
Our program is also interdisciplinary so we do take some of our core classes with other OT’s and P&Os and it makes it a great learning experience.

Some of the things that our program could improve on is coming up with a better lottery system for clinical placements. Our clinical instructor is continuously working in coming up with better ways on how to organize clinical rotations placements. However, it does seem like other PT schools run into similar challenges with the lottery system as well.

Omg did not expect to get accepted but I just got an offer of admission! Does anyone have thoughts on USC vs UW? I see that you might be able to establish residency in Washington to get the resident tuition rate. Does anyone have experience with that?

To all of you who have been accepted and waitlisted, huge congrats!!!

Many of my classmates were actually taken off the waitlist so don’t lose hope.

As for applying for in state tuition, there is an arduous long process. Especially if you are moving solely for school purposes, it will probably be hard to get. In the past, some students have been able to, but there are a few requirements that include such as working full time in the state of Washington.

That’s great about interdisciplinary opportunities. I was disappointment that some other programs did not have interdisciplinary opportunities as a career in PT is very much a collaboration with other professions. As far as the clinical placements go, my mentality is that any knowledge is good knowledge and would try my best to make any placement a valuable learning experience.

Do you know where you will be doing your first intership?

Exactly! That’s the mentality to have.
This Summer, I will be in Ohio for 4 weeks for my non-urban OP rotation.

Really looking forward to coming to Seattle. I'm pretty much decided, just have to weigh financials etc. Where are most of the classes? Can't seem to find info on facilities and buildings. Also, where do most PT students live? Have done a little research around U District, Wallingford, Fremont, Ravenna etc. but curious about commuting/driving.

Rejected yesterday, but I already put in my deposit at Rocky Mountain University so I'm not heart broken. Although in-state tuition would've been nice! For those of you who have never lived in Washington State before... it's a great place to live! Make sure to appreciate all the hiking and other outdoors activities.

What were your stats like?

Degree: B.A. International Relations, M.S. in Sports Management at public university
Undergrad Cumulative GPA: 3.2 - 3.3
Prerequisite GPA: 4.0 (95% done at a community college)

Still waiting to hear back from Chapman, but unlikely to go unless there's additional funding.

Yeah, Seattle is a beautiful place to live in. Glad to hear! Welcome to the Husky family 🙂 Yeah most students live in those areas you mentioned as well as Greenlake and Capitol Hill. I currently live in Capitol Hill and love the location as I take a quick 5 minute light rail up to campus. All of our classes are in the south side campus (next to the UW Medical Hospital).

What is your class schedule like? Is it generally M-F, 8-4pm, or do you have a lot of late nights/weekends?

We don’t have classes that go straight from 8-4 pm. If we do have a long day, we’ll definitely have blocks in between. Some days will be shorter than others. I’ll attach a picture of my Fall schedule looked like. It may change a little or stay the same for you.

Yes those neighborhoods are close to campus however are very expensive in rent and living costs (seattle has higher taxes). I live in Kent/ Covington which is about 45 minutes out of seattle but the great thing is Washington has amazing public transportation. I hop on the sounder train to china town then transfer to the Lite rail which goes right to campus. It's about an hour commute but I typically use the time to study on the train (I did my undergrad at UW). When I go grocery shopping in Seattle I'm always shocked how much more expensive it is than in Kent where I live. If you are looking for cheaper rent I would recommend looking for places in the outskirts of Seattle and look at public transportation. When I was at UW for undergrad we received a bus pass included in tuition 🙂

Plus where I live I am closer to some pretty amazing hiking trails and national parks 🙂

I was put on the alternate list. Is there still hope?
I'm on the same boat 🙂 the school said they'd start contacting alternates after the deadline for amitted students to either accept or deny and pay their seat deposits, March 2 🙂 so just hang in there!

Hey guys! This is my first time using this forum but I was hoping to get some input!
These are my stats:
School Applied: University of Washington, Eastern Washington University, University of Pugent Sound
Accepted: UW, EWU, UPS (all of above)
Waitlisted: -
Undergrad: Western Washington University
cGPA: 3.87
pGPA: 3.85
Hours: ~2,000+ hours at various therapy settings

I was hoping to hear from input/people's experiences at UW vs. EWU.

EWU has amazing facilities and the faculty and students are very spunky and enthusiastic but UW has always been my dream school and is much closer to friends and family. The biggest factor here is the difference in costs of tuition with UW at $76,000 and EWU at $43,000.

Would like to here from others in similar situations or with feedback! Thanks!

HI!

So I'm a second year student and I got instate tuition along with a few of my classmates that tried really hard on their application. In order to sway the office, you have a bunch of paperwork you have to do that shows that you have lived in the state for the past year. To start when you move here I would go to the DMV and get an a Washington license right away and register your car in the state of Washington and keep these documents! I'm guessing you're independent if you are going to grad school and you have to sign off on your loans by yourself. BUT if you depend a lot on your parents like their healthcare, and you're having them pay for your apartment I doubt that residency will work in your favor. It truly works for those that are independent. It also helps to keep a paper trail of times you volunteered!!

DM if you need anything else.

I am very biased since I am a second year at UW. UPS and EWU were never on my radar as potential schools to attend, and UW was my dream school as well even though I was from out of state. As a student of color, it really mattered to me that the program I attended reflected cultural awareness, diversity, and openess. When I attended PTWA (the PT association in Washington) events there is a stark difference in representation between EWU vs. UPS vs. UW, with UW being the most diverse by far (like not even close. By a LARGE margin). There is a special task force for applications at UW that ensures a diverse cohort with different backgrounds. As a student here I can say that they did a terrific job because my classmates and I come from totally different backgrounds. Our professors here are also spunky and enthusiastic haha but on the other hand they are also kind and patient. I feel that I can talk to all my professors if I see that I am having a problem, or just talk to them and joke about everyday things. I think it's important to have a good relationship with your professors and I feel that I have that at UW.

Has anyone been offered an admission off of the waitlist yet? 🙂

For those who may be interested, my family has a home in Tukwila, great location and 5 minutes away from light rail (which takes you directly to UW). We have 3 rooms available for rent. If you’re interested, you can pm me 🙂

Exactly! That’s the mentality to have.
This Summer, I will be in Ohio for 4 weeks for my non-urban OP rotation.

what dates are the first year summer clinicals? Are all the clinicals on the same weeks or does this vary? Im asking because I want to plan a short trip during the summer and curious about the timeline

Any news yet regarding on waitlists getting offer admission? Have they took their first wave? Thanks!!!

Yes! I was accepted off the waitlist at the beginning of March!

Congrats! Thanks for letting us know there’s movement. I’m still crossing finger here. Do you happen to know your percentile rank or did they email you your position is top third?

thanks!

I never asked about my position on the waitlist as I personally didn't want to know and just wanted to wait to hear back, but I found out via an email the morning of March 3rd!
