Has anyone in the 'competitive' category at the University of Washington heard from the Admissions committee? I'm rather curious.....Thanks.

Hey Dena,

When did you get put on the competative list? I interviewed at the UW in early February, and got put on the waiting list the next day. I'm still waiting to hear from them. Let me know what you hear!

Thanks,

Scott

I interviewed in the beginning of November and received notification a few weeks later. The letter specifically says that the admissions committee considers my application competitive for one of the available positions. It also says that decisions will be made as to accepted/alternate no later than the first week in April. So who knows. It is a rather interesting hold system...it was a rather interesting interview as well.

Good luck to you - and please let me know when you hear something.

Hi,

I'm on the competitive list as well, and have been since November. It's approaching that "first week in April." No news here. Let me know if you hear anything.

Kristen

Today's the 10th of April and again there was no letter from the UWSOM. I'm going crazy here. Do you suppose they send out the definite yes's first, the definite no's, or all of 'em all at once? If I haven't heard by now is that a good thing or a bad thing?
I nearly get nauseous every time I approach the mailbox. Does that make me a pathetic loser who hasn't the confidence and self-love to be a good doc, or admirable because I care so much, want it so much?

Hi Marco,

After waiting to hear from them like you, I finally gave them a call on Friday. Pat Fero said that they were sending a lot of "bad news" this week. I had to push a bit to find out I was not accepted there. I hope you get a positive response.

Best of luck to you,

Scott

I didn't get in either Scott - I also phoned to find out...it was getting ridiculous. However, I am happy to say that I will be attending my top-rated school. Do you have a back-up plan?

Best wishes to all those still waiting....

Well, I received it in the mail on saturday. Negative as well. Fortunately I have other options. Sounds like they don't take anybody!

Best of luck to all...

Hey Dena,

Sorry to hear about the UW! As for me, I'm headed to UOMHS, in Des Moines this fall. Where are you headed? And what about you Kristen? The UW has a good reputation, but I'm happy about how things turned out.

Scott

Scott:
UOMHS seems like a great school!! I was really impressed by the amount of time they put into making interviewees feel welcome.
How exciting!

I will be heading to the military medical school - USUHS - in Bethesda, Maryland. I am really excited about it...undoubtedly it will be an interesting adventure.

Best of luck to you.

Well, sorry about UW Scott and Dena. We should all be glad we have other options. I'm definitely in at University of New England COM, and am still in the game at U of Southern Calif. Still a bit up in the air, can't wait to begin to make actual moving plans...

congrats about other schools and good luck!

Hi!

Sorry, I meant to reply to your message earlier Dena. Congrats on USUHS, that's a great deal! Have you have any experiences in the military, or will this be new to you? What a nice feeling not to be as financially in debt as many of us will be!

Kristen, any word from USC? UNECOM looks like a great program. I'd love to live in Maine! Best of luck to you, and let us know how things are going.

Scott

Jot,

A few weeks ago I received an email from U Washington-Seattle, saying they're still reviewing all apps and will contact me if they need supplementary materials from me. They continued by saying a thing or two about their MD/PhD program (I'm applying to MD only.) After that, I still haven't heard anything.

u of w sucks. they don't take cali ppl even tho we on west coast too. whateva.

UW does take Cali residents. I'm living proof, and no, my stats aren't all that great. They are a great school, even though I'll be staying in Cali. If you want to attend UW you should definitely apply, but you better have a good reason.

how bout I like the rain? haha

Unless you're applying MD/PhD, the reason has pretty much got to be a desire to do primary care with underserved populations. Their website is very clear about this.

I interviewed at UW late last Feb. and almost everyone interviewing with me was a California resident. I think they interview quite a few California residents, but only later on in the admissions cycle.
