I am interested in specializing after I graduate dental school, but the school which I will be attending, UNLV, only has a GPR, ortho, and pediatric residency currently. Unfortunately, I am not interested in any of these programs.

I have two questions therefore:

1. Are there any plans to add additional specialty programs at UNLV within the next four years?

2. Can I find a list of dental schools in the U.S. that offer an endodontics or OMS specialty?

You can go to any school. You apply to speciality programs just like applying to dental school. It doesn't matter if the school you go to has specialty or not. All that matters are your grades and your application.

Thanks for the above responses; is the GPA the main factor specialty programs look at when interviewing applicants?

One step at a time. Don't worry about specializing yet, worry about getting good grades and learning about dentistry. There is a lot to learn, and many who think they want to specialize quickly realize that they really don't.

Don't underestimate the freedom of being a GP.

Question: is the ADAT considered an important factor in admissions at this stage, or are specialty programs still tentative to place much weight on it?

I guess another important question I should ask is, just how competitive are specialty programs? Most students applying to dental school are considered competitive with a 3.5 GPA and a 20 DAT or higher--how do specialty programs compare in terms of competitiveness?
